Question Mastergrade Site Down & Jim@CarbonLtd busy

I'm trying to get some weights, weave options, fitting instructions etc from MasterGrade but their website (www.mastergrade.net) has been down for at least 2 weeks. I emailed the site admin twice but zero response so far.

Anyone know if they've moved to another URL? Are they still trading actively (I guess so as I saw the recent post for a rear diffuser)?

I also PM'd Jim twice on this but I guess he's busy. If anyone knows the answer to any of the questions below (or knows where the data can be found) then please reply. Thanks.

1) you say 1x1 is avail. to special order - I know it's not as pretty as twill but are there any advantages? Is it any lighter? I'd heard the S2000 crowd were keen on it.

2) Is that a plexiglass (or similar) rear screen? Does it come with that or do I need to source one & screw it in place (not a problem)?

3) re, the A-pillars (I hadn't ever considered them as I always assumed they were just covers (like the roof)). If they're a replace do you have to saw through/unbolt the existing ones??!! What is the structural result, is it stronger or weaker? I am v.nervous of this but it's the only way to visually join the hood with the hatch (I am more keen on function than form but if I can get both... :-).

4) what are the weights of the hood & rear hatch?

If the MasterGrade stuff is as good (& light) as you say then you are welcome to my cash (assuming you'll ship to the UK). There'll be a delay as my car order isn't placed yet. But this gear is back on my essentials list for the 1st set of purchases (late 2007 or v.early 2008).

I hope we can work out a good deal.

Hello Sean,

Well I am sure Jim and Mastergrade are Sema at this point (well it should be over by now)

I will try to answer a few of your questions though.

1.The hatch is a 2x2 weave, which is lighter than the stock hatch by leaps and bounds.

2.As far as the plexiglass, I believe Jim is having them made currently or he might have them in stock already, but it is not included.

3.The A Pillars from what I know should be as strong as the stock ones. I would do it simply because it will match the rest of the kit.

4.I do not know the exact weight, but the hatch as far as what i know is lighter.

The weave on these products are very nice, and the quality really is top notch.

I hope that helps your a bit more.

Hi, sorry the last week has been nuts...

1) you say 1x1 is avail. to special order - I know it's not as pretty as twill but are there any advantages? Is it any lighter? I'd heard the S2000 crowd were keen on it.
There are no weight advantages of 1x1 vs 2x2 weave. Many of the higher end JDM parts use 1x1 weave, I personally prefer the 2x2.

2) Is that a plexiglass (or similar) rear screen? Does it come with that or do I need to source one & screw it in place (not a problem)?
The Mastergrade plexi glass option is not available yet. The only pre-cut lexan I know of is from LSautomotive.

You wont lose any function with the a-pillars replacement. After taking off your OEM a-pillars you will notice they themselves are not very strong. The mastergrade A-pillars are full replacements, not overlays.

4) what are the weights of the hood & rear hatch?

I dont have exact weights on either product. They are vacuum bagged, which leads to one of the lightest and most durable ways to make carbon pieces. These are lighter then say wet hand laid Seibon carbon pieces.

Thanks Jim & VisionaryRacing.

Jim, is there a step-by-step guide for the A-pillar replacement? Either on the forum or as a separate Word doc/PDF you could PM me? I searched the forums for "A-pillar" but there are nearly 600 posts & I couldn't see a DIY/Mastergrade one. my350z suffers from it's own success - can't see the wood for the trees!

There is another 350z website, the name is censored from me posting here, however they offer service manuals for the 350z, all years. It really doesn't matter which year since it is the same, but it will give you detailed pictures and where all the clips are to remove the A pillar.

If you have trouble finding it, just shoot us a PM.
