thanks....anyone have an exact figure? I was thinking maybe some of the carbon fiber hatch guys may have weighed the OEM hatch prior to installing the carbon hatch to get an idea on savings...

I had to install some new hatch shocks when i worked at the dealer on a few and the hatch feels so damn heavy. Like at least 100 pounds heavy. Would be nice to actually see one on a scale. It has to be at least 100 pounds though. You wouldnt believe how hard it is to lift without the shocks on it.

Well isn't the glass what is actually heavy?

If you get a CF hatch you pretty much HAVE to use Lexan.

My OEM hatch complete with everything is 76 lbs, bare it's 50lbs, and for those saying the glass is heavy it's all of 14lbs.

I find that very hard to believe... I know glass is one of the heaviest parts of any car and part for part is considerably heavier then aluminum and steel.

I don't know how much the stock weight is but I know a carbon hatch/carbon nismo wing and lexan weigh in at 55lbs.

so how much weight are you really saving by going with a carbon hatch? Is lexan some kind of clear plexi-glass? If the oem glass is that heavy, isn't it damaging on the aftermarket C/F hatch material? Which manufacture makes a C/F hatch that's exact same shape as the OEM?

I agree with you. I just installed a CF hatch and the EOM hatch is as heavy as your aunt Betsy. I removed the OEM glass off the hatch and it still weighs 50+ pounds. Once the glass was placed on the CF hatch it didnt make to much a difference. I was still able to carry the CF hatch by myself with ease.

Wouldnt taking all that weight off the rear fug up your weight distribution? Did anyone notice any before/after effects?
