Default Paint quality, PPG vs. Dupont

I'm getting my car shot with Dupont, in the past all I've used is PPG and have been happy. How does Dupont compare, any painters on here?

I'm a PPG guy. Only other brand of paint i like is House of Kolors. They have great clear coat. Nothing beats the ppg primer though.

there is no way to answer this question - each manufacturer has many different grades of paint/systems. The trick is not the manufacturer, it's buying all the right supporting items needed, the right man doing the job , and doing them under the right conditions. Every manufacturer has low end, mid range, high and lines

I sprayed my car completely using the Dupont ChromaPremiere system a few months ago, and it ranks up there with the very best paint systems I've used before from Spies-Hecker and Glasurit. Especially the ChromaPremier clear, which was nothing short of amazing.

if you're doing it yourself, a perfectly clean environment and no humidity with excellent ventilation.

if you are paying someone to do it, you need a good bodyshop

Give me a few months. We'll be repainting my entire car once all the exterior alterations are completed.

Sweet. That would be worth the drive to ATL. Any idea on costs yet? $5000+?

I don't pay retail, because i'll be doing it myself. To someone just walking in a body shop that wants this kind of work, easily $5,000. I'm going to get rid of all the orange peel that I can. I expect about 500 hours minimum because of introducing all new parts to the equation, as well as some metal fab.

getting rid of orange peel is super easy if going with an aftermarket paint job.

agreed with ghost

pricing will vary shop to shop of course, but the work we did to mine, which involved 0 body work, but fitting new front bumper, new sideskirts, and painting the entire car (same color) was around 130 hours of work. That includes all the after paint wet sanding (about 15 hours worth total - I have zero orange peel now!). If you factor in materials cost (around $1300 ish at my cost), total job would have been around $6000-$8000 at the body shops in our that I'd trust with such a big job. However, I didn't want a shop doing it, I wanted to do it in house because of how meticulous I am, and I wanted control over every step of the process.
