fun with ppg harlequin and carbon fiber
i'm sure nearly everyone is familiar with tinted carbon fiber, but i had never seen ppg harlequin (or any prism paint) misted over carbon fiber. i know alot of you guys have alot of carbon exterior and interior pieces, so i thought i would post up pics of the effect it creates to maybe give people some ideas.
as you can see, the carbon fiber weave is still very apparent through the harlequin. the trick is to just do an even mist on the piece. a heavy coat will create even stronger effects though. pearls work best over dark colors and tend to get lost when sprayed over light ones, so the dark carbon fiber is a perfect piece to do it to.
those who are familiar with seeing this paint in person knows that pics don't do it justice. alot of my engine parts are going to be this style.
this one shows some of the purple coming out
here, some of the blue
here, some of both (the other colors get lost unless you see it in person)
last but not least, here is what happens when ya do your whole hood!!
ppg makes about 7 variations of this paint so there is a bunch of other colors.
negative people-i couldn't care less if you like it or not, but to see it in person you would have to be half a retard to not drop your jaw to walk around it!

ummm, yes, i flamed a Z. if it has wheels, it should be flamed, maybe i grew up around too many car shows. the half and half theme has been done soooooo many times with this car, and the lines are ackward for other linear graphics that i have seen.
yes, this is going to be a show car, no it is not my only car nor my only flamed car or truck, lol. will be posting pics when it is totally together and yes it is quite jaw dropping.
by all accounts then, this guys paint job is just junk too them right? how could someone flame a newer import car?

i am old school, lol.
btw- that is only one angle shot of the hood. it is all misted harlequin paint, and both the base and harlequin primary colors match exactly. so in other words, they COMPLETELY disappear at other angles, and reappear different colors. that angle shot is showing all the colors the paint will go, look at it straight on, and they all disappear.
not trying to sell anyone on it, but it is quite cool to look at.

gunna take some time off in about a week to finish the car. just assembly left to do and toss the motor back in.
the way it was painted is very original. i mean in both the process and the effect. i got a bunch of magnetic sign material and cut flame designs out in it with left and right side designs to make it symmetrical. on all the metal parts you can just align the magnetic template up and spray. instead of all the time masking. if you notice, none of the flames connect, but there is about 100+ individual flames on the car. just misting the paint on, creates a soft edge on them(no ridges to sand out later) and it dries in about 20 seconds, making the process go pretty quick.
thanks to the folks who see the work it takes to make paint jobs like this.

pic with the panels pretty much just layed on the car and not aligned. i can't get any camera to pick up the true base color though. it appears like stock db here, but in reality it is almost more purple than blue. the cam can't accurately pick up the pearl tones like our eyes can. engine is out of the car, so the stance normally is in the weeds, unlike this pic. still need to tint windows, make the cf front splitter, and my own cf rear diffuser. got the design figured out, just need time.
will be maxing out the greddy 18g turbo's with the haltech, and adding 125-150hp shot to it also once the motor goes back in.
wheels i am still not sure about. may wait to get it back together and then decide if i want to keep these or go abit crazier.
**again, if ya don't like it, then don't paint your car like this. outside of that, i care less to hear the haters and the folks who jump on their bandwagon. better yet, come up with your own original paint job, get it painted, then come and say whatever you like in this thread, ha.
