its easy taking off the emblem.. used dental floss.. but the left over tape was kinda annoying. I heated it up a lil with a blow dryer and scratched it off with my finger. Other than that.. it was a piece o cake

Question Curious

Is this the emblem they use overseas and what is the reason for calling it a Fairlady Z? Is there something unique about the Fairlady other than the steering wheel being on the right?

Thanks!
John

the Z is called Fairlady in Japan. I forgot what the meaning is.. but a search on yahoo will probably give you an answer.

It already comes with adhesive so you just stick it on

Smile Going to replace emblem this weekend - Quick Question

Ok - I ordered the Fairlady Z emblem from japanparts.com (great service BTW) and I'm going to do the removal this weekend. One quick question:

The template around the emblem, is there an trick to making sure it's lined up correctly with the hatch? I would hate to put it on and then notice that it isn't on straight.

Just wanting to make sure before I rip the 350z badge off.

Thanks in advance - to anyone!!!

Fairlady:

Datsun (now Nissan) was building a Fair Lady or Fairlady roadster/sports car for years before our 240 Z or Fairlady Z was created. These first Fairladies had little or nothing to do with the Fairlady Z but when the design revolution happened at Nissan in the 1960s (to create uniquely American cars for the American market), they created the 240Z. It was named Fairlady Z in Japan, I'm sure, to continue with the familiar Japanese market name for the Datsun sports car. The trend simply continued.

durobred,
Yeah, $40+ was kinda steep for me too. Luckily, I was lazy to look for it, and by the time I found it, it was only about $27:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=Z33EM-FRLDZ

They were out of stock for awhile, but just got a fresh shipment mid-August (that's when I got mine). Don't know how much shipping is, cuz I bought mine with a bunch of other stuff. IMHO, $27.15 is worth it for the emblems. Easily the best price on the Net, so far. Here's how they come:

kbsig106,
I think the best way to make sure it lines up properly is to put masking tape around the "350Z" emblem, take the emblems off, then use the masking tape as a guideline. The masking tape won't damage the paint, and will come off easilt with Goo-Gone:

Not sure if this is fool-proof since I was about to do it, but then I liked the way it looked "naked". I figured I give it a month before slapping on the "Fairlady Z" emblems.

Good Luck!

I hope I'm not seriously offending anyone here...

...but how did you guys not notice that the blue foam lines up perfectly with the edge of the car? You don't have to tape off anything at all. All you need to do is seat the blue foam against the bottom left edge of the car. The foam even curves on the left side EXACTLY the way the hatch curves so it's easier to line up.

Not exactly rocket science, fellas!

yeah, it was kind of funny... i was trying to eyeball the emblem on the back of the trunk.. i was wondering how i was going to make it straight. then i noticed, "hey, this thing lines up exactly with the trunk." i was wondering why the foam was such an odd shape...

duh!

Thanks for the "witty" response and the information was perfect. However, your delivery kinda sucked - my opinion though.

Going to remove the emblem tomorrow. Taking a day off to work on the Z.... However, that's not what I told the boss.

The name Fairlady, believe it or not, was to honor the movie My Fair Lady. The CEO of Nissan loved so much the movie that he wanted to honor it (the movie) naming the car as the movie. I read it a long time ago from some car magazine (C&D or MT or R&T, don't remember) about the history of the Z looong before the 350Z was even born.;-)
