putting film on a tailight, subduing it's ability to prevent someone from crashing into you was always a head scratcher for me...and that's not headlice dude.

....Although, err, I can't say I haven't done it. But 1996 was a long time ago.

In any case, the Z's got great tail. Film really hides some of the nicer features of the lights. So, why put something on that takes away from the attractiveness of the car?

Double the loss.

The tint doesnt take away from the ability of the car behind you to see you to any sugnificant extent. These are pics of my rear with tint. They still look red in the sun but slightly darker in low light conditions and from a distance.

Forgive me... my car is filthy and pics are off my phone.

edit... i chopped some of the pic so the file would be small enouph to fit.

You won't like the results if you are rear ended and then find yourself at fault for the accident due to a violation of the vehicle code. The film is illegal as it takes away the reflective nature of the lenses. While you may like the look, the liability that goes with them might not be so enjoyable.

You're driving a $30k car. You want to risk it getting totalled because you feel that a film on your taillights looks good? I agree with a couple of posts up, I have no idea why someone would, even marginally, reduce the ability of the car behind you seeing when you are braking.

Dude... I DONT CARE. I like the way it looks and up close its difficult to tell the difference. I went with a medium smoke so its really not bad at all.
You can tell tell they are LEDs when they are not lit up and when they are, you cant even tell if the lights are tinted.

And last time i checked, the taillights were lights not reflectors. And besides, i tinted the front reflectors also and they still reflect fine at night.

The only thing that i lost was some light from the headlights which i can see to be dangerous but its still enouph to drive by.

And its because i have the 06 tails that i can put tint on the tails because the LEDs are bright enouph to shine right through.

sounds like you already made up your mind then...

I like the sprayed look better than the overlays.

I considered doing that as well but i can remove the overlays in the future if i so please. The spray just seemed a little too permanent.

Here's mine before and after tint on SMB. The other day I was parked near another SMB and asked the GF and another friend to compare and they were both way in favor of the tint on SMB. Makes the car look more subtle sexy as opposed to flashy sexy, which I think is simply a matter of different tastes.

Prefect example .. I think it ruins the taillights. They look so much cleaner without the film. The film almost makes them look foggy and old.

Two things I hate is eyelids and smoked tails. If you get rear ended your insurance company won't like your smoked tails either or cut you a check.
