Question 03 base HID conversion

I have a o3 base and thinking of buying an aftermarker HID kit. I know that the bulb size H7 will fit all the Zs except for the base model. Would H7 fit base? I have read somewhere base needs H1 ... Maybe someone who has done this can clue me in. Thanks

you can look up your bulb size on sylvanna's website? (not sure how it's spelled). You can go to an ebay HID KIT auction and they will usually have a link to it. I'm too lazy to do the search now. Also, don't get a cheap kit that is flooded on ebay. Go for a decent name brand kit on ebay, like "pilot" or something else. Don't get any chinese made crap.

Ebay is good for research, but is 99% garbage when it comes to things like this. There are some new halo's available for the 03-05's that look pretty damn good too. Not that you probably care, but they really help pop those HID's!!

Just make sure you get a kit with a starter and ballast.

I know it's pretty easy to install (I've done my friends cars). I also will avoid any cheapos. Does anyone, who actually converted 03-05 base to HID, know which bulb size will I need? I just didn't want to take a wheel, and cover off just to find which bulb it took. I guess I might have to go to the website. Thanks.

this is were I got mine from ---> www.visionbulbs.com
get the H7 kit. The only thing is that I had to replace the one of the ballasts 2x. I dont know maybe it was just my installation or what, but it was covered by warranty anyway. There are much more expensive kits, that I guess has better quality.

While I highly recommend getting the OEM HID lights rather than installing a PNP kit into the base halogen headlights which will cause glare issues, if you want to do this, get some h7->d2s adapters so you can use OEM d2r bulbs and OEM ballasts for reliability

all of the h7 conversion kits i've used/installed in the z seem to have a problem with the hid bulb sitting correctly in the housing. If they are placed in the housing the same way as the standard h7 bulb your beam pattern and cutoff will look horible. i fixed this by using a snap ring in between the housing and the bulb mount to adjust the pitch of the bulb. before adjustment it always looked like i had 3 dim hot spots on the beam pattern and after just 1 very bright one with a great cutoff.

hope this helps anyone

I am currently using phillips slim balasts and 6000k phillips ultinon

I put a 6000k kit in mine too. Easy to instal once I figured out you had to take the wheel and everything off, love the lights though.

ok... is this true... if you use the H1's in your base modle and you try to upgrade to the H7's and go HID you will MELT your base head light assembly because its not MENT for HID?

this is what i used... love my lights... 8k normal running and 20k highs
easy to install but i dont have base head light assembly. i dont know if you can install REAL HID (H7 bulbs) on base head light assembly "SAFELY" without melting (as i stated above) i might start a thread about that if no one seems to know.
