Do keep in mind, you could EASILY screw it up. but once its heated you should be able to have 2 people easily pull it to size and install it.
Then again I'm crazy, first thing I did to my then brand new 07 GSX-R1000 was take a heat gun to all the plastics and remove the stickers. Same goes for my 350Z, heatgun on the dealer stickers and 350Z badge.

I've had good luck with heat guns on random things, its something I'd try. Again the key is knowing when you're going toooo far. Never get to that point and even if it doesn't work, no harm is done. Think of how hot the hood gets sitting right over top of a turbo charger and sitting in the sun. its worth a shot. Maybe even make your own piece of CF using basic supplies from the store, let it harden up and then heat it with the gun to see if it softens up.
just an idea.

But back on topic, yes they are a PITA to install, i understand that, which is why i've taken it to two places, but sometimes they dont fit period. I'm an example of it and so is he. The heat gun might work, I wouldn't know i never tried it but what would happen when the heat is gone and the lip shrinks? Wouldn't that still cause it to crack? The lip will only expand for so long...

Again I can't push the point enough, heating it will take skill and if done wrong it could mess it up bad, If you've ever painted before, you should be able to heat it. Use the same type of strokes, making sure to get very even coverage.

Again not something I've done but something I would do if I had to.

well seeing as i'm stuck with the extra lip i would give it a try but lacking experience in both painting and heating i'm sure i would screw it up and not be able to give a correct answer to if it would work or not. haha
