If it was me, I'd take a heat gun to it.

Do keep in mind, you could EASILY screw it up. but once its heated you should be able to have 2 people easily pull it to size and install it.

Then again I'm crazy, first thing I did to my then brand new 07 GSX-R1000 was take a heat gun to all the plastics and remove the stickers. Same goes for my 350Z, heatgun on the dealer stickers and 350Z badge.

yup, see if maybe just maybe it would soften it up some. If nothing happens then I move on, key is to just not over do it.

I've had good luck with heat guns on random things, its something I'd try. Again the key is knowing when you're going toooo far. Never get to that point and even if it doesn't work, no harm is done. Think of how hot the hood gets sitting right over top of a turbo charger and sitting in the sun. its worth a shot. Maybe even make your own piece of CF using basic supplies from the store, let it harden up and then heat it with the gun to see if it softens up.

just an idea.

Actually chucky boy knew the full story because i told him on the phone personally. But my thread is over and i'm not ruining this guys thread talking about it.

But back on topic, yes they are a PITA to install, i understand that, which is why i've taken it to two places, but sometimes they dont fit period. I'm an example of it and so is he. The heat gun might work, I wouldn't know i never tried it but what would happen when the heat is gone and the lip shrinks? Wouldn't that still cause it to crack? The lip will only expand for so long...

From what I've read, when installing the lip, you must stretch the lip in order to fit it. heating it will only make it easier to stretch, once it cools down it will stay in the new shape you stretched it to.

Again I can't push the point enough, heating it will take skill and if done wrong it could mess it up bad, If you've ever painted before, you should be able to heat it. Use the same type of strokes, making sure to get very even coverage.

hopefully CF can be heated and stretched so it doesn't sound like I'm talking fully from my ***

Again not something I've done but something I would do if I had to.
Will it work? someone give it a try!

well seeing as i'm stuck with the extra lip i would give it a try but lacking experience in both painting and heating i'm sure i would screw it up and not be able to give a correct answer to if it would work or not. haha

You never took Jim up on the offer? he said he'd get it to fit for you and if it didn't he'd return your money + shipping cost.

I run a local business and feel that his offer was very fair.
