Default Bumper cover repair, holy crap

Had a little parking lot mishap a couple of days ago. I was backing out of a parking space, another guy was backing his Audi A5 from the spot across from me. I saw him and stopped to pull forward....too late. His rear bumper "kissed" mine. Minimal cosmetic damage, but no way am I leaving it this way:

Just got back from the body shop I am taking it to. Initial estimate is around $1500 for a new bumper cover, paint and other various doo-dads. I told my body shop guy that my main concern is paint match. He told me that is why the labor cost is so high as there is a lot of metal flake in the chrome silver color so they mix and match very closely to the rear quarters.

So I will pay my $1000 deductible, insurance will pay the rest, and then file a claim with the other guy's insurance company since I was not moving when he hit me. If they are successful, I will recoup my deductible.

Yes that price is way to high. Should cost max $400-500.

You do not blend bumper covers into panels. Only panels get blended into the rest of them to match better. Due to flex agents in the bumpers you can't do that.

That repair should cost no more than $500-$750. That bumper cover does not need to be replaced. Even if you wanted to replace it.... I think it's $250 new. This guy is a thief.

Just make a claim with his ins company and seewhat happens first.

No way, take it somewhere else that is ridiculous. I had a quality body shop paint my entire 5-piece Nismo kit for $880. A new bumper cover from Nissan, if you even need one is like ~$300. My car is orange and has a lot of metallic flake and probably wasn't the easiest thing to match....your shop can't justify that much for a single silver piece.
