Default Removable headlight covers

Covers were sanded down and primed so far.

These do not require removal of your current headlights, they kinda reach around the bottom of the headlight creating a little hook action, and then I'll attach something on top so I can secure it to the chassis with a plastic fastener like the ones used on the front bumper. Or maybe just use a little velcro along the top.

What do you guys think? Mostly for track use, but will be used other times as well.

I ditched my first one, as it came out a bit uneven. So I redid the one and did the other side one as well. Here are updated pics.

primed.

sealed. Dries dull.

Color + clear coat.

Installed

They're for track use and stuff so the headlights don't get damaged.

They'll be painted black.

that's cool...is the "hook action" enough to secure them?
what material is it made of?

It's plenty to keep it secured. The left side is also securely held by the hood when shut.

Made from fiberglass cloth. Turned out to be about 1.5mm thick.

The cloth I got from Wal-Mart.

I used tinfoil to cover the headlight. It came right off the headlight, but some of the tinfoil is stuck to the headlight.

After I paint it, I'll be lining the inside of it with felt or any other kind of thin, soft material.

Thanks guys! I'll be sanding it down tonight and starting the other side tomorrow, as I have run out of resin/hardener.

Got it sanded down and primed with a flexible, thick, filling primer to fill all the imperfections. Tomorrow I'll be sanding it smooth and waiting until I catch up with the other to paint them both House of Kolor gloss black.

Tomorrow I need more supplies to do the other headlight

Why!? You've got a $30K car -- get a 3M clear bra installed. OR a more common & inexpensive track solution is blue painter's tape. About $3 & a 10 minute job to tape both headlights.

Interesting project. How will you be flashing the car ahead of you when you want to pass?

That would be a good 'mod' to have for long road trips or whatever.

Because it's just something about me... I like tackling challenging projects, etc. I like the feelings of success after finishing such a project.

Hmm... Good point. I'll have to come up with something for that.
Yeah man, for the track or rocky roads that beat the sh*t out of your front bumper .

I did find a place that sells carbon fiber. Depending on how these turn out and however many other projects I want to start, I might order carbon fiber.

Dave, would you be interested in something like this?

Pretty cool DIY, post up some pics of the black covers when they're done! I bet that will look real aggressive when they're put on.

What's wrong with painter's tape? Nice effort though.

OP,

Nice work. My old man (who does track days for NESBA on his RC51 Vtwin) did the same thing for his bike. Can't wait to see them painted!
