I'm an engineer for an automotive company and a common solution to fixing booming noise or idle vibration is to add mass to the component in order to alter the frequency of the vibration so it's not being multiplied by the frequency of other components.
In other words, it may sound like a$$ afterwards.

wow ..never knew there's weight in the hatch ... I can see how that aids into NOT opening the hatch too fast which is a good thing ....

Just get a pair from jtabraham and you'll be happy ... holding hatch by shoulder or head FTL ..
