Default Is it ok to tint if you have the "grease streak"?

I was planning to get my windows tinted today but I have the "grease streak" so many others have been plagued with. Will it damage the tint if I get it done before I have the streak problem fixed???

I got the streak on my passenger window after I had my car tinted. So far, no problems, but I'm watching it carefully to see if anything pulls up or whatnot. I've just heard a few bad stories about that grease TSB, so I'd rather avoid it if I can.

WAIT!!!!!

Wait until you have the TSB applied. The same thing in the door that was leaving the grease scratched my tint and I now have a permanent line in my tint because of it!

I would definitely advise against tinting your windows til the grease problem is corrected. I have scratches on both my window's tint cause of this. When mine are corrected, I will probably have to retint the windows. And I am definitely going to request the dealership pay for the retint, although I know that probably won't happen.

I differ on that. I've had grease from day 1, and from day 3, I've had the car tinted (7 months). No scratches.

My other two vehicles have always greased the windows. One is a 1991, the other is a 1998. Neither of those scratch the tint, either.

Just because you have the grease doesn't mean you'll get scratches, and if you don't have grease, you might get scratches. Scratching can hapen either way, it seems.

I don't have any scratches on my tint from the grease. And it didn't show up until about 3500 miles. If it had shown up earlier, I would have checked with my dealer about getting it fixed, but I don't want to be without the car for just something like that.

Default Streaky windows

I concur! The grease is not the culprit of the scratches. The grease is easily wiped off with a little alcohol.

I have had the streaks since day one. I have had my windows tinted for several months now - no scratches!

Default Grease streak fix

There's service bulletin about the grease mark/streak on the inside of the door glass. Your dealer has a kit that will fix that grease streak. They can fix it about an hour and it's covered by your warranty...

Here's the part nissian part # 80327-CD025

Haha... Hey they were only trying to help .

Anywayz, I have the grease streak, it's been there since day one as well. I had my windows tinted about 3 months ago and I haven't seen any adverse effects due to the streak. If anything it makes it less visible. Get good metal based tint w/ a life time warranty, even if u void the warranty by going too dark, u still know that u have a good product.

Metal based tints aren't recommended if you have the tire pressure sensors, btw.

I didn't know that, I'm glad that I dont have the tire pressure sensor then . I do know that metal based tint can affect your laser/radar detector and interior intrustion alarm if u have one. Although my radar detector seems to be working fine still, I will probably invest in a valentine soon so that the sensors can be outside the car.
