Default Hatch struts...

SO my car needs some new hatch struts. It has some aftermarket ones on it which are way to strong and keep poping off which is really annoying. I will be closing the trunk and it will be 3/4s closed and the strut will pop off the mount, the hatch will close on the strut and it scratches the paint. I'm getting really annoyed at these stupid struts.

Is there anywhere I can buy a set of OEM struts and those little black springy things for the the hatch lid?

I went to the stealership and they wanted $168ea for the struts and $35 each for the spring bump stop which is retarded.

Hello Jim, weak hatch struts is a topic that has been talked about before. Please use search option next time.

To help you out. Z1auto has heavy duty struts for sale at a fraction of the cost to OEM. click here I hope this helps.

sounds to me they are not to strong but possibly dimensionally too long....doesnt have to be by much but my guess would be that...

when they are a tad to long it takes much more to force them close.......it causes them to pull off the ball stud.......seen it happen on many other applications.

I have a set of used OEM hatch struts I will sell you super cheap if you want them. Just shoot me a PM.

If you want new ones, then I would recommend getting them from Jason as well, he sold me the ones I use on my carbon fiber hatch and they work beautifully.

Aftermarket OR OEMs, they're no good! My wife solved my problem with a rubber-tipped umbrella! I just prop the hatch door open!!! El NO problemo!!!

Thanks for the advice yoshi, however you didn't read my post obviously. They are not weak but too strong. And the link you send is exactly what is on my car causing the problem now. Thanks anyway for the post.

I'm gonna find something to replace them cause it's just driving me nuts.

Default Struts

350-Z Jim,

I'm having the exact same problem with the struts I got from jabrahams prior to his deal with Z1. The sockets on mine look to be different than the ones pictured on the struts Z1 is selling. I shot a PM to Jason so we'll see if he has any ideas. Not good when the entire strut pops off and bounces off the side of the car or the hatch closes on it and messes up the paint!!! It's a b**ch to close too!

Im glad u posted this, I bought the previous version from Jason too, and they do the exact same thing everytime i close the hatch. I dont know how to fix it, the retaining clips are on but dont seem to help, Its nice to be ableto hold my hatch up but now im afraid to open it because I cant close it without them popping off and scratching the hell out of my paint

EDIT: if you find a solution please let me know

I've decided to order some of these and give them a try.

http://www.puretuned.com/

I sent Jason a PM but I never got a reply. I find it hard to believe that of all the people that have bought these previous version struts that not more people have had this problem to the point of saying something about it.

You say that the strut is coming off the ball....do you know if you're missing that little pin that goes in there. Thats what holds the strut onto the ball

you guys having the problems with the struts popping off, post a pic of the ends .

you can buy diffrent ends on www.mcmaster.com - search "lift supports"

catalog page 1169

the ones labeled "Steel and Stainless Steel Standard" look like the new version Z1's of jabrahms design.

they should be interchangeable, check to see if yours unscrew off?

If you are talking about the little spring lock that came with it, then yes it's on but it doesn't lock anything worth a damn. The strut pops right by it on either end. I've opened and closed my hatch 4 times today and 3 times it has popped off as I'm closing it. Never on opening! The ball ends are all new Nissan parts also using the part # that was supplied. The ends that are on the new struts supplied by Z1 are different looking to the ones that came with the previous version sold directly by Jason. They are probably better, but the ones I have which are brand new are a total waste of money to me. They are causing more damage than anything else.

I guess I could check out the ones from mcmaster.com, but I shouldn't have to.

Jason,

The ones labeled Steel and Stainless Steel Standard look like the ones I have. I don't believe this is what the new ones look like. If it is then I already have that mess.

Yeah the locks are on, and it still happens, 9/10 I close the hatch the ends pop off of the ball stud and the strut falls down

I bought mine a couple years back, directly from jtabraham. Is that who Jason is? I've never had one problem with mine.

Garbud...yes its the spring lock I was trying to describe.
