question for z owners about seats
hello, i have a G35 coupe 6mt and i would like to participate in an autox event. problem is, i cannot fit in the car with a helmet on. i was however able to fit in a 350z with my helmet. after casually looking at the seats and their relation to the floor, i noticed that the z seats look like they are almost touching the floor whereas the g seats are up about 2 or so inches. my question is if anyone knows right offhand, what are the differences between the g and z seats(ie: brackets taller on g, seat construction etc). any info would be greatly appreciated.

Headroom
Z=38.2
G35 coupe=39.2
you sure there was more room in the Z? not according to the numbers... not callin you a liar or anything, but I do think you may be mistaken, not sure about brackets or anything. I thought they were totally different seats, but I guess I dont know that for sure.

when i am sitting in my car, i can't even slide my fingers between the headliner and my head. while sitting in the z, i have at least 2 inches of headroom. i do not know if it is because of the z roofline starting high and sloping downward as opposed to the g roofline. when i got into the z at the autox event, without even adjusting the seat(the owner was a little shorter) I was able to put on my helmet and not hit the roof. in my car, with helmet on and seat laid almost all the way back and all the way down, i still hit the roof.

I can't fit in my car with a helmet without moving the seat up a couple of inches, then tilting the seat back slightly. If you are tall and have the seat all the way back in the Z, you actually have LESS headroom than if you are closer to the wheel due to the roofline.
It is a pain in the neck. (heh, pun!)

Does the G35C have a sunroof??? If so, there goes about an inch of helmet space.
A friend with an Audi S4 removed the bottom portion of his OEM seat, removed the leather cover, then proceeded to shave away about an inch and a half of the foam cushion. He replaced the leather cover, re-installed the seat bottom... looks like new and now he has extra headroom.
Not sure if it will helo anyone here, but here the tech article on Audiworld

thanks for the replys. before i do major surgery like audito suggested, i would like to know if i can just change the brackets or something easy like that. my first question is why the seats have different heights compared to the floor? once i/we figure out why, then i can go from there and see if a height reduction is possible.
