I performed the similar, actually exact same thing.... I personally really like the look. dcains, i think your color is good, matches well with the LED's ..

You can actually fit 42 LED's in our reflectors, overkill anyone?

Instead of a blade, I used a small flathead jeweler's screwdriver to repeatedly scribe all around the seam that holds the two out parts together. The screwdriver works better because it cuts a wider groove than a sharp blade would, but I'd guess it took maybe 20 or 30 passes on each side to open the seam. I've heard you can bake these reflectors open, like guys do to open headlight housings, but the glue on these is the solvent-type (like when you built model cars as a kid), rather than flexible sealant used on headlights.

I resealed mine using superglue, but you have to avoid using too much, as excessive glue vapors inside the housing will cloud the clear plastic. Also be very careful not to get any glue on your fingers and touch them to a visible part of the reflector. I put a thumb print in one of mine, and had to polish it out.

Yes, I used a small flat head screwdriver to open up the reflectors as well. I also used superglue for plastic and liquid nail to seal the reflectors.

The strip of LED's is glued to the back inside wall of the reflector assembly, so they're facing forward. This is something you can only do with the '06-'09 reflectors because they have a triangular cross-section, different from the '03-'05 units.

The LED's for the parking lights inside the headlight assembly are 168-type, with 9 SMD LED's:

To get a good match for the headlight color, these are all "natural white" LED's, as opposed to "warm" (more yellow) or "super-white" (which have a blue tint).

how is the power ran inside the housing?? did you drill a hole and run the ground/power outside of it? and did you buy that strip of leds or make it? if you made it what resistor did you use?

The LED strip is from here:

http://www.oznium.com/led-flex-strips

The 9.5 inch has 24 LED's, so you have to cut 3 off. The power lead comes out through a hole I drilled in the top of the housing and sealed with silicone. No resistors required for these, and you can tap into whatever power source you choose. I have mine hooked to the parking lights. If you look closely at the picture I posted, you'll see I colored the side edge of the strip with a silver Sharpie marker, so the internal wires can't be seen.

These are the LED's used in the headlight assembly:

How does the light dispurse throughout the lense when it is on?

Thanks for the link! I couldn't find the 'natural white' color you mentioned...?

^seems like a better location to put the leds. Do you have pics of the reflectors on the Z? It seems very nice. I'd like to black the reflectors as well.

Erik@R/Ttuning, the leds seem to disperse to the side rather than forward because of the led placement on the reflector. This is my beta attempt.

If you look at the second pic (the one in total darkness) I posted, you'll see most of the light disperses toward the front of the car. Here's a view from the side:

I just had a look, and don't see it, either. Maybe they're out of stock? I had the cool white first, and they were much too blue. The LED strips from Oznium are a good match for both the headlights, and the natural white parking light LED's. Maybe shoot them an email and see if they expect more in stock.

I want a pair of your sequential LED rear lights, just don't have them in the budget right now. Very nice design and work.

dcains, I didn't notice that you had the leds on side of the reflectors as well. Nicely done! It probably looks very nice at night time.

Now I'm thinking of getting the amber reflectors and black them out.

btw, did you guys drill holes into the reflectors or just stick the led strip onto the reflectors? I didn't want to put so many leds though, so I went with just 4.

Not sure what you mean. I only installed one strip of LED's in each of the reflectors, nothing facing the side. I didn't drill any holes for my LED's, just glued the strip in place. I believe FLiPPER_Z mounts his in a separate, custom-made circuit board.

If you decide you want a set of orange reflectors, I've got a brand new set I never used. They're OEM, from Courtesy Nissan, in their original boxes. I'll take $35 shipped for the pair. Send me a PM if you want them.

I take it you just painted the inside piece once you got them opened up?! What did you use to paint them with?? Looks great! Also did you open yours the same way everyone else did? And where do I buy these clear reflectors at a decent price?!

Great job! This is exactly how I want mine to look!

Pretty much the same, except I used a heat gun to weaken the plastic welds

I got mine on eBay, but there was another Z-vendor that had them a bit cheaper at the time. I can't recall which one, though, but they were out of stock anyway. I think I paid ~$65 from one of the California Nissan dealer who sells on eBay.
