Default Cracked Windshield. To fix? or Replace? pics!

Ok so after searching I found that most people have had their windshield replaced for around $200. My insurance quoted me $280 for their special affiliate glass shop fix! lol I talked to a guy at this place that fixes up to twenty inch cracks for $65. He said the crack would be stopped and "less noticeable".

My question is: Does anyone have any experience with these shops? and if so how much less noticeable is "less noticeable" if that makes sense. I don't wanna throw money away if after the fix it still looks like ****. The crack is on the bottom and doesn't affect my driving. However it does look extremly hideous and I can't stand it.

Thank you for all your help in advance!

Ask the windshield shop if they have replaced a 350Z windshield....A mobile serviced did some extra damage to my Z because the installer was not familiar with the Z. Search the forum and you will find my story.

Thanks for the advice if I go the replace route I will be sure to inquire about their experience with the Z to alleviate any problems similar to yours.

Just looked at your story and am glad to hear AAA was able to get you helped out! Thats funny because USAA (my insurance) wanted to use the same company that you did! I will definetly steer clear of them.

Auctually the spreading happened within one day of the initial chip. It has since stopped but who knows for how long!? I am hoping to hear some good feedback from someone who has went the repair route before I replace the entire windshield.

Hit a pot hole or a bump and it could shatter the whole window.

Is Florida one of the only states where you can get your windshield replaced for free?

So the shop that does the repair is www.sgwr.com

Here is a snipet from their site on the repair procedure I was referrring too.

Using our exclusive repair system which utilizes nearly 30 inches of vacuum and precise pressure increments, we inject our exclusive SuperGlass resin into the glass damage, restoring the strength and transparency of the glass, without having to remove the windshield from the vehicle.

It is covered under the comprehensive coverage portion of your car insurance policy here in Florida and there is no deductible/fee to have a windshield replaced that is cracked/damaged.

Florida law provides the windshield waiver to encourage immediate replacement of windshields without cost to the insured.

you cant fix that crack. it has to be replaced.. i do auto glass so i know..
you can only repair rock chips. and even when you do, you will still be able to see the rock chip there but it helps from spreading to cracks. once it cracks, you need to replace it

NOTICE: MAKE SURE THEY KNOW HOW TO TAKE YOUR A PILLARS OFF (with removing weather strip and unscrewing screws and then pop the rivets)!!!!!!!! I had this done today for a cracked windshield and the MORON BROKE BOTH of my A Pillars! Luckily he is going to replace them after I about ripped him a new A$$ bc he said it wasn't his job to replace them. I was heated. It was a glass company given to me by my allstate insurance and they assured me they knew what they were doing, but they were wrong!
