Metalic Noise in Rear Underbody FIXED!!!
I figured I post this in the General section just in case some of you guys may be experiencing the same issue. Moderators move if necessary. Sorry for the trouble, if any.
Well, here it goes:
I have an 08 Touring, Auto. For the past couple of months I've had a developing metallic rumble emanating from under body in the rear of the car when I would hit pot holes or moderately rough roads. I checked the spare tire and all the jacks, to make sure they are in place, and they were. Then took it to the dealer, when the noise became too much to deal with. After all, I didn't buy an 08 car to sound like an 86 pontiac!
To make a long story short, after a total of 4 days in the shop for this issue, they finally figured out what the problem was.
It was the rear sway bar end link that has gone bad. The fix was to replace both the left and the right rear sway bar end links and the noise is gone.
They told me Nissan North America was involved in the fix and ultimately had to connect the car to a chassy ears machine to figure out the issue, as probing of all the chassy components did not eliminate the noise.
I hope this issue does not come back, but if it does, at least I know exactly where to start looking. Is it possible that the sway bar end links were defective coming from the factory?? Who knows!
Hope this helps on somebody out there.
Bryan
P.S.
I forgot to add, that the dealership was incredibly professional and worked with me 100% percent. I have spacers on my rears and was expecting them to dump the issue on me as caused by my spacers. They did not even mention the spacers, although I know they took the wheels off and saw the spacers. I highly recommend this dealership to anyone under warrant in North Jersey area. They are Ramsey Nissan on route 17 south, in Ramsey New Jersey. Give me no hassles thus far. Plus, 2 wheel alignments, all on the house. Not to jinx myself, but so far so good.
