Broken Headlight Salvage Project...........
Not sure if this would be the right section because this probably hasn't been done before. In a collision with a tire on the highway, I ruined my right headlight casing. After my insurance claim I received enough money to replace both headlights. The headlight that broke is pretty much useless, but I figured out a way to make it useful in my garage. I plan on making a desk lamp out of the Xenon head light assembly. It'll be really bright and useful. Not to mention it's actually a part of the car and would make for a really custom fixture in the garage.
Now, here comes the challenge.......I'm pretty handy and know how to run wiring. My plan is to find an industrial lamp at a thrift store as my base. I'll use some sheet metal to create the hood for the light and maybe some flexible wire casing to allow the light to be mobile. It's still on paper so I'm open to suggestions.
Let me know if you think it's possible and/ or if it's a waste.
Just wanted to be creative with an unusable part.

Ok in taking apart the light I've come to find it's a simple ground and power cable that turn on the light. That means I can gut a light and use the power cord and just put the ballast and bulb. I'll get on it in a bit but I have to finish the exterior project on my car.
I know a few guys on the hidplanet.com forums made some lamps that way using computer power supplies to power them. Would work great because the light feels more like natural daylight.
