Default An alternative to the fuel door soon...

I took a little excursion to the web this weekend to find cool aluminum fuel doors for other cars. I found one that I thought would be absolutely stunning with the handles on the car and wrote to the company begging them to start making one for our Z's. Here's the site in case you want to see what I saw: amp-research.com. (Look in the "Store" area at the Alloy Fuel-Door.)

Guess what? It was already in the works. While I don't have permission from the contact person that got back to me to post particulars he did offer the they are currently already under contract to produce them and a prototype has been built for sometime. Furthered by saying to keep our eyes opened for something "... available early next year ..." and that we will be able to find such an item directly from Nissan and perhaps even an aftermarket one.

May not be for everyone but if it looks anything like the one currently produce - I want it!!

I dont want a silver one... I want it to look as it looks, and just be metal. is that what they plan to make, or just remake the one they already have to fit the Z body panel. if its the later, no thanks, we can already have those.

they look so mullet like.

I used to have one on my Eclipse that was made by amp-research.com and I didn't like it because the quality was really poor. The rivit areas would bubble and chip, and I had it replaced by Mitsubishi 3 times until my 3 year/36,000 mile warranty expired. All 3 times the cover would bubble and chip. It's not worth it. If somebody made one like the one on the Audi TT then I would consider buying because the quality is really good.

One more bad quality, alot times the door spring would get stuck and not pop out which would not put pressure on the door to stay shut and make the door flap around all the time.

Didn't want to discourage you about the door but just trying to look out after another Z owner after my bad experience.

Thanks for the insight, bz8. Truly appreciated.

As far as exactly what it looks like - I really haven't a clue. I haven't seen it nor was it offered to be viewed by me.

I'd imagine if this is contract work for/with Nissan, they are going to have to offer a piece of quality and something that looks good on a Z (or they simply won't sell), but we'll see. At least we know something is happening - somewhere.

I hate my fuel door. ;x

True, true . . . I'm a moderator at Club 3G and got completely got rid of the aluminum gas cap after replacing it 3 times

Stick with the color match door and keep the vehicle looking clean
