I've been thinking, I really want to change the sound of the Z from INSIDE the car. Outside it souds awesome, but inside, you get alot of monotone engine growl that really covers up the beautiful "Borla burble". Im thinking of adding a little bit of thin, lightweight soundproofing to the underside of the aluminum hood. This to slightly mute the engine compartment, and help balance ot the sound.

I know this will get responses like "yeah, and coating the shifter mechanisim with Vagasil will make it less nothchy....its a SPORTS CAR DAMN IT"....BUT, I really think I would enjoy driving the Z more if it sounded more like a friggen sports car inside. My bros 330ci is quieter inside but sounds better cause you really heear the exhaust note more.

What do you guys think....is it possible, where to have it done, and how much weight are we talking about here?

its high denisty foam I think, not sure if its flammable. but its certainly not light, and definitly not good for cooling to the engine I dont think...

Ill do exactly what you said Id do, 330 isnt a sports car, its a luxury coupe not even a sports coupe(thatd be the M3) of course its quieter.

oh and your really asking about insulating the firewall not the hood, hood would insulate the engine from the outside, not the interior.

 

Ok, I realize the 330 isnt a posrts car, Its just sounds better inside the car...you can hear the exhaust note more. I, not complainging the Zs too loud, just to noisy...if it sounded better I wouldnt say anything.

How would one go abot insulatin the firewall more...or is that just a SOL kinda thing.

 

youd likely be better off to insulate from the inside vs the engine side.

I'd say the 330 is as much a sports car as the Z is. I own a 350Z. And a friend of mine has a 330Ci and i can see why it costs 40,000 and mine 28,000. I think his is just as capable as the Z is. I love it....... Not as fast in a striaght line, but sorta close.
