Not alot of great advice being given out in this thread. Hood pins are always needed. When you have a latch catch that is fiberglassed into the hood, you never know when that fiberglass can crack. The last thing you want is your hoodsmashing your windshield at 80mph on the freeway (This has happened to more then one person). I believe the damage was around $3500 to fix fenders, hood, hinges, windshield, and roof.

Always tell people to run hood pins.

And CF hoods dont usually crack or shatter windshields when they come up, usually just dent roof. ive been in a car with a CF roof that came up and slapped the windshield, due to the hood being open a foot when driving with string tying the latch to the hook on the hood (they had to drive with jump box in engine bay, and it wouldnt close. not my idea haha)

SAME thing happened to me!!!!....6k in damages later I will definately use them if I go with another C/F hood. Ironically I HAVE a set of Aerolatches in the house, but was too lazy to instally them. Some lessons are so costly!!

IMO.. I owned both a vis and seibon hood for the z.. And from the looks of it, the latch on the seibon seems like it attaches onto the hood a lot better than the vis IMO... fitment also
Can't say so much about the top secret, ect tho..

Hey guys I just got the Seibon VSII installed today. The shop that did it said it latches so well that pins are not needed. I don't understand how the latch can break so easy? I can still buy pins and install if I need to but the shop said they don't see how the latch can just break.

I love the clean look, but I also trust the experience of other members on here and don't want to regret anything. I will be gone for 2 weeks and probably put the pins on sometime after that. For now though I am enjoying the clean hood.

I will try and get pics up later.

its fiberglass underneath, just because the latch is high quality doesnt mean there isnt a risk it will break eventually. My Asuka latch is very strong but that doesnt mean the risk was not there.

exactly. When a hood fails, it's generally not the latch itself but the area around the latch.

Here's a PRIME example from G35driver why hood pins are ALWAYS needed. He was told by the store he bought it from (Intense) that hood pins weren't needed and look what happened:

"So i was driving home tonight after hanging out at my buddies house around 12. Well im accelerating from a stop light (prob going around 40 mph_ when all of a sudden i heard a loud crash and my window went black..all of a sudden i realized my seibon ts hood had flew up and smashed into the wind shield of my car

I got out of the car to realize my fenders were destroyed in the area by the windshield and my hood was completely ****ed up.Some how the wind shield didnt break but i am so lucky this was on a side street going slow versus being on the freeway.

Im just really pissed because i called a pretty reputable company that many drivers by their after market body kits from to buy some hood pins from them. I was told that i wouldnt need them because seibon is a reputable company and u really only need it for going 100 mph+

So let this be a lesson to everyone! Please buy hood pins for your hoods because i dont want to see someone killed by this type of bs...Someone was definitely looking over me tonight thank god"

Okay fine I'm convinced lol. I won't be driving my car for probably a couple weeks until I get back but I will get them on.

Thanks for all the input.

I never thought of doing hood pins myself but I am wondering now that I have seen this tread. Is it difficult to install hood pins on the 350z??? I have tried on my 2002 civic Si and I completly messed up the hood. 8(

It depends, the aerocatch pins require alot more cutting then say the sparco hood pins.

I installed my Sparco pins myself in 45 minutes or so.

Are there any good write ups for the sparco type pins. For now I am just going with that design.

Alex,

I see where your coming from. There are hatch/tailgate fastners that some D1 cars use on the CF trunks. I've never heard of a hatch latch breaking so I wouldn't really worry about it. There is no air pressure constantly trying to lift the rear hatch as you drive...unless your going really fast in reverse
