Default Carbon hood need pins?

I just got the Seibon VS2 hood. Do I need hood pins or is the stock latch good enough?

I wouldnt risk it without pins. They are very cheap insurance.

If your hood latch goes...........ouch. It wont be pretty when you cant see traffic in front of you, your windshield shattered and your roof collapsed some.

Yep. You don't HAVE to have pins. But, they are recommended.
Unlike metal, it's typically only resin holding the latches in place.

Thanks for the replies I will have to get this done. Are there any pins you guys reccommend? A shop is doing the hood tomorrow, hopefully a place in town has pins available that are good.

Those look good, I sent them a PM to see what the sale price is. Does anyone have any pics of the other pins available out there?

Is there any difference between these and the other ones, other than the looks?

no difference.. hoodpins all serve the same purpose.. safety and looks.
unless you get the locking pins, then its just extra safety

the piece that your hood latches on to on a cf hood can wear down and is a weak spot on a hood. For normal day driving it may not be necessary if your hood is made well but at high speeds (100+ mph) you are taking a risk. I would suggest doing it for the peace of mind or before any long distance trip you take.

i would suggest getting the Aerocatch locking hood pins. They look awesome and add an extra level of security.

Here they are on my daily driver:

Nice pics thanks for the input. The aerocatch does look great. I def. want to get the pins on before taking any long trips. I doubt I will be 100+ mph very often but, better safe than sorry.

I have run a vis carbon hood without pins for almost 3 years now, including a good share of track time at 100 mph+

When I first installed it I noticed it would lift a bit at high speeds, and I considered putting pins in. However, when I installed a greddy radiator cooling panel, the lifting stopped since the air coming through the bumper opening is diverted down instead of up.

FWIW.

meh unless your flux capacitor launches you back to the future without warning, you should have any issues. if the CF hood fits well enough that there isnt a massive gap between itself and the bumper, why would the hood come up?
And CF hoods dont usually crack or shatter windshields when they come up, usually just dent roof. ive been in a car with a CF roof that came up and slapped the windshield, due to the hood being open a foot when driving with string tying the latch to the hook on the hood (they had to drive with jump box in engine bay, and it wouldnt close. not my idea haha)

I recently purchased a VIS oem style hood. The fitment is very good and I made sure that the body shop attached all the weather stripping that the oem hood had. So far I've had no problems but I told myself if I start to see wobbles at high speeds; it's time for Aerocatch. For now though I've been fine without them and personally I think it looks a lot better without any pins.
