A little bit of VeilSide in my life.
First off, I bought this lip from Bulletproof Automotive. Colin and Roo are great to work with; they both answer their emails in a timely and courteous manner. Rock on.
I had my order in a week! Thanks.
On to my opinion…
The Carbon Fiber Veil Side Type1 Lip is a P.O.S.!!! (piece-o-*****)
The lip is constructed of glass with a single sheet of carbon fiber laminated on to it. When you hold it up to the light, you can see right through it. That’s how flimsy it is. However, the lip did arrive in perfect condition.
Since I just plopped down almost five bills I was not going to trust some monkey to put it on so, I set out to do it myself as usual.
I did a test fit just by holding it up to the cowl and everything looked in order. Then I tried to get both sides on to the wheel wells. I took my time to make sure I didn’t mess anything up. The passenger side snapped on in a good snug fit. The driver side was SO tight, once it snapped into place the corner started to CRACK! There was way too much tension at the corners. I immediately took the lip off and cursed loudly.
I decided not to give up!
I reinforced the corners using a piece of 1/18” aluminum angle and JB Weld. I cut the aluminum angle with a dremel tool, bent it to fit perfectly, JB welded those bad boys in, and then clamp them. Those corners are fortified!!!
Next problem, the mounting holes were NOWHERE near where they should have been! Looks like another job for the dremel. After routing out the mounting holes I used some “liquid nails” around my cut edges and on likely stress areas, just in case.
With the streets as they are here in New Orleans, I don’t expect this thing to last long. Damn shame!
The good side:
I looks the BOMB! Now I need to decide on a wing.

Nice to hear I wasn't the only one with problems getting it on. I wasn't as high-tech as you though. No dremel or aluminum welds, just crazy glue and zip ties.
You're right - it does look "tite" when it's on. (please excuse the bad pun)

I am thinking twice about the CF lip now!!
I love the lip, but the fitment and cracking makes me concerned. I plan on getting the CF and painting the sides to match the body color, but if it does crack, the paint will too, and that's not good!!

Veilside Lip
The Veilside lip and body kits are a very tight fit, in order to match the body lines tightly and look good. There are updated install instructions, to allow non-professional body shops to get the same fit results as the factory. The instructions show a method to "notch" the top corners, to allow a little more flex.
As far as the thinness, well, all carbon fiber is very thin. This is part of the reason it can be light and strong. The thicker items generally have an FRP backing layer which increases the weight and decreases the "flex" ability. They (Veilside) also use a tighter mesh fiber, which allows for more strength and flexability, with less layers.
By comparison, the C-West front lips we have in would be "see through" too, if not painted black from the factory on the backing side. Unfortunately, no body pieces are truly "bolt on" in most cases. Minor differences in the vehicles and tiny variations in the curing method, present with FRP (and CFRP) products, means that a universal perfect fit is nearly impossible.
I am sure the Veilside lip will be very strong and resist breaking from minor impacts. I have been an authorized Veilside dealer for several years and they are without a doubt one of the highest quality and best in the business when it comes to the fitment of the aero kits.
