Default how to remove door vents?

i wanted to remove the door vents that lead from the dash to the doors.

i want to paint the "z" silver and i figured that it would be easier if i removed them first.

i have to point it out to people that there is a "z" there because the whole thing is black, and besides, i figure it would look pretty mean if there was a silver z there.

can i just yank those things out? or is there a special way? top first? bottom first? looks easy to remove, but i dont want to break any tabs by yanking.

i tried pulling lightly at it, but it didnt come off, so i got scared and stopped.

thanks for any help.

Just stick your fingers in the opening and pull out. It is held in with a couple clips. Once removed it helps to tape off the lines inside the grill. That way it looks like a complete silver "Z"

i used a silver metallic pen. i got it from walgreens for 2 dollars.(they had the pen available in gold, too... if you wanna have a bling bling'n "z" )
i was a little worried that the color might fade or chip, but its been 2 months so far and it still looks the same.
