Hello guys.. a question to all of you that are using carbon hoods:

I really want to add one at my car for 2 reasons. First is the coolness it ads. Second (and most important) is the engine-heat solution it provides.

But, when there is a hole for the heat to exit, the water/rain can (and will) enter. Any problems anyone?? While driving under heavy rain? When washing your car...?

Is there some sort of "inner rain protectors" (like the ones used at J's-Mugen for the S000's hood)?

ps. I really like the Asuka Type 1 and the Seibon VT-style..

Rain guards are not needed, but are nice for keeping the engine bay cleaner. Neither the Seibon VT or the Asuka type 1 have rain guards. This is something a local body should have to take on.

Or make rain guards around your intake filters......Out of Bazooka Bubble Gum bucket like i did.....I have the Asuka Type 2 Double Sided carbon fiber!

The 350z is the perfect car for water on the engine as the battery and many major electrical components are hidden. I suggest a cold air intake with heat sheald "20$+ at discount auto parts" or TN kit like I have it puts the filter in the front bumper, under the impact beam. But if you go the TN kit I would get a radiator cooling plate and intake heat shield as well to keep water off the filter.

Any suggestions between the following hood (less water & better heat elimination)
* Asuka Type 1
* Asuka Type 2
* Seibon VT-style
* Mastergrade AMS Hood
these are (for me) the best looking...

I have the Asuka Type 2 Double Sided hood (1 of 4).....I freaking Love it....That pretty much sums it up!

Top Secret has covers for the vents as well...

Asuka Type 2 looks nice, just like the new Amuse hood. To bad its appears to be for the 08's...

Mastergrade is working on a set of rain guards for the AMS hood, but they are not ready yet. We do have a sale going for the 1 AMS hood we have instock without the rain guards.

Back on subject:

I have an Asuka double sided CF hood and yes the vent sits directly over the intake on the driver's side.

1) Use electrical tape and tape up all the exposed wires that you think will be exposed to the rain.

2) I used "tin foil" yes it's ghetto but it works
A. I spray painted the tin foil black to make it look more clean
B. Placed foil under the mesh using the "paperclip" like holders
C. It might be hard... but you can try to divert the water somewhere else by molding the tin foil

3) On mild rainy days most of the water collects in the tinfoil area but quickly evaporates due to the heat from the engine.

I haven't noticed any problems with rain, but I live in Las Vegas, and I have a tiny airfilter on my Vortech.

I think that pic was from the mold. I have good hood in my garage, but I have to prep it for hoodpins before I can put it on my car.

I have the mastergrade AMS hood, and have zero problems with rain bothering the motor, I live in ND and we get a fair amount of rain, the only thing I could ever see being an issue is if it rains then freezes, but my car doesn't see that **** anymore. another thing is, if you have a standard short ram intake, you have to cover it with something, I have the K&N typhoon so that comes with a CF cover.
