Wet Sanding
practice, practice, practice, find someone that knows how to do body work and learn from them, then when you are ready try it on your own kit.
that is true also, but it sounds like he wants to know how to do it right this very moment and probably does not want to wait that long
well this stays true for any car mods, make sure you learn by doing on project cars/workshops before you start working on your own car.
Paint and bodywork is especially difficult, people go to school for years and still do bad work, its a learned skill and you have to be dedicated to learn and perfect it.
No pointers online will really help you learn how to do bodywork, I don't care what anyone says, it can only be learned hands on and through repitition.
Purchase "Paint-U-cation - Color Sanding & Buffing" DVD avaliable from EASTWOOD.com.. It discusses how to eliminate runs/surface defects along with proper sanding/buffing techniques. Typically, purchase some 1500 - 3000 grit wet sandpaper; soak overnight in water; spray the area with water/liquid soap mix, color sand and sand; then buff out to gloss finish; etc, etc.
I presume you are only color sanding the "clear coat".

Hmm well I'll be working on this with my uncle whos had good experience with some body work so hes helping me with it. I just want to know some tips that I should keep in mind when wet sanding a body kit. He's done work on clearcoats on stock body parts, etc; just not on an aftermarket part... These tips would not only be helping me but him also because hes kinda the brains behind the whole thing. If it was me alone I would not even attempt it, I would just go to a body shop. The tips that I would need involves aftermarket part prepping specifically. Im going to be watching him but do alittle bit at a time, just a learning experience. Some of the parts have dimples, etc that I need some tips on removing. Thanks
- Not the case at all. Please dont assume. Thanks for the input though.
