Default Nogaro Red Paint Question

Ok as of tonight I am completely confused about this paint. I have read online and been told by a couple of people that it is a tri coat paint. However to at UTI (Universal Technical Institute) I looked up the paint code A41, and I said it was only a base coat clear coat, consisting of only two tints. I thought it also might have a tinted clear (making it a tri stage) but I couldn't find anything on that either. I even asked my instructor, a 30+ year automotive painter, and he also said it seemed to just be a BC/CC. I am so confussed, can anyone shed some solid proven data on this?

Since it's not metallic or pearlized, I don't see why it would be three-staged.

Thats what's confusing me, but the internet and the nissan dealership swears up and down that it's a tri stage?

As I understand it, it is a three-layer paint. Member ghost_shift may be able to give you some details, as he had a shop paint match a kit to his Nogaro Z.

Didn't someone say there is an undercoat of white between the primer and top coat?
I thought I read that somewhere...

I found this when someone mentioned it:

"I've got 2009 350 Nogaro red. Love it. It glows. Mine is clear coated. The big reason is that the under coat is white. It shines the light back through the red topcoat. (found out from a small rock chip). Be sure to get the touchup kit for small nicks as the the white will show. But well worth it. In the sun it lights up the driveway!"

^ Yeah but that white undercoat is actual primer from the factory.

I doubt they have multiple primers. I'm sure all are primed first then later they paint batches of cars/parts different colors. The white coat prior to the color makes sense as a way to brighten the appearance.
