so looking at the other threads people have said a good paint job costs 5-7k.
is that taking every single piece off and fully painting it or just the outside?

 

It depends on where you go but, it almost always includes taking the pieces off.

For $1,000 you might get a half-*** tape-off job.

How would you paint the engine bay properly without removing the motor? Thats manpower intensive and costly.

 

if you only intend to paint the exterior and not have the rest of the car match, I hope you are prepared to keep your car for a long time, or take a hit on the selling price.

you can get away with it if it wouldn't bother you, but there is a lot of area on the car to paint and a lot of $hit to remove to do it properly.

 

Do the gut the car and paint the interior too? Or just engine and drivetrain components?

 

if the job is done properly, the interior is gutted too
