Default Automatic headlights?

So I parked my 08 Nismo at a friend's house the other night and accidentally left my lights on. My friend pointed this out an hour later (she didn't say anything earlier because she assumed my headlights automatically turn themselves off) and I rushed outside to see my headlights off.

Thinking I'm screwed because the lights killed my battery, I tried to start my car and it fired up with no problems. So as an experiment, I left the lights on again and timed it and they shut off after about 3 minutes.

This is pretty cool, I didn't realize that Nissan build an auto off feature in the 350. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon of science with their 350?

I've had so many people come up to me and tell me I've left my lights on. It's kinda funny.

Each bulb is 65 watts, that's 130 watts at 13 volts or about 10 amps, add 5 more amps for your other lights. 20 minutes at 15 amps is 5 amp/hours. The stock battery is good for 45 amp hours easy. Even with the high beams on you're still safe. If you had more things running like say a big stereo system you could drain it in 20 minutes.

If you're killing the battery with 5-10 amp hours worth of use you really need a new battery.

Why read the manual...had the car for 3 years and you learn something new about it. Not like knowing about it the first day would have mattered. Excitement levels were maxed out anyways when buying it.

Just like holding the unlock button puts the windows down...learned about that last year.
