Ive wondered as well, cause Ive never seen a definitive action from it.

but never really taken the time to test it out with a flashlight or anything.

your nismo wing blocks too much of the light but if you want to check it out here's what you do. With the green light on during daylight hours feel the backside of the mirror for a hole and cover it with your finger, this is the forward light sensor. The mirror should dim in a few seconds because the rearward facing sensor is getting much more light than the forward.

It doesn't dim a whole lot, and it doesn't change immediately when you turn it on and off, its a gradual change that takes about 5 seconds, and thats probably why it seems like it doesn't do anything.

It turns a greenish color. Its definitly noticable as the first few days of having it really bugged the crap outta me. Now i don't even notice, but it does do its job.

When the green light is on, it is supposed to be functioning. Green light off, means the feature is turned off. As far as the compass goes, they show this feature if you buy the mirror as an aftermarket..........but the compass is not on any of the production mirrors. Don't know why this is..........I thought I had been cheated out of a compass at first.

Yeah..It turns everything greenish as though you are in the Matrix. Take the other pill. You'll see.

For what it's worth, the auto-dimming mirror in my Audi doesn't dim enough at all. You can definitely see it get darker, but it doesn't get nearly dark enough for my sensitive eyes. I like the idea of auto-dimming mirrors, but I sure wish they'd get darker, such as on manual mirrors when you flip the lever and the mirror gets *super* dark.

KONVERTER I tested mine at night by turning on the lights right by the sunglass holder. Like 2003z said it take a few seconds to go into affect.

Just try leaving those lights on and messing around with your mirror. You should definitely see if it works or not that way.
