Fixing CF (Carbon Fiber)
Guys, got scammed by paying for a scrapped/damaged CF TS Diffuser.. Paypal closed the case in the seller's favor..
anyways, on to the pics

now i'm looking for my options..
as BEBO'S ZEE suggested, i could probably try to wrap it with CF rather throwing it out. but the problem is, we don't have anyone that deals with CF in this country.
and my thoughts are to get it fixed/molded with fiberglass, and paint it black. i don't know what can i do about the vortex generators, as you can see they're of one side only, and one of them is cut..
other thought would be, fix it with fiberglass, paint it black, throw out the generators and get nismo rear addons..
comments/suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

Maybe getting the clear redone and as for the Vortex Generators try adding Nismo rears to take its place...

Its definitely fixable, even though it was hacked up. Some of the cracks will somewhat still be seen but some sanding, and some minor touch up work with resin and it should look much better.
You can fill the gouges with some CLEAR Finishing resin and then clear it with a slight dark tint to the clear to mask some of the cracks. Overall its not too bad but it will just take some time to get it to look better. Let me know if you need help. DEFINITELY not worth to get it re-wrapped its gonna cost you just as much as a new piece. I'll have these finished up in about a week or so.

that's hot..!!
never thought it would look so nice. thnx for the ref.
no where near to him, would cost me at least double the price of a new one to get it shipped > fixed > shipped back..
been on that thread for a while, waiting for their finished product, as i was gonna buy a new one and ditch this..
Eric, i wish we had bodyshops that knows how to deal with CF..
i paid a total of $550 including shipping for this piece.. new ones were sold for $650 (back in the days)..
i'm waiting for your product to be out, and if it's the right price, i might just buy one off you..
do you think this can be fixed with fibreglass? i.e. sand it, fill in the cracks with fiberglass, clearcoat it?
fortunately, we got shops that knows how to deal with fiberglass, so i can ask them their opinion too.. but i wanna see what are my options, so i can at least suggest that.

feek el5air..i'll most probably get it fixed here with fibreglass molding + get nismo rear addons in CF to complement the look..
^^He never called it "Top Secret Rear Diffuser" yes it is made by mastergrade, which they call a TS diffuser. Yes to all the people who are looking to drop over 1k for this piece that costs less then $600 to make this is a knock off or replica of the design, but in a technical sense its not a full replica because Top Secret only uses PLAIN weave for the diffusers, this is TWILL WEAVE.
ANYWAY.... Op, this is definitely fixable, may not be worth the hassle, but it can be done. I would not fill in any cracks with fiberglass that is for sure. you can reinforce the backside with "cloth fiberglass" its what the backing is made with when it is infused. The fiberglass would be better if it was an open weave (porous). If you need some I can send it out to you, I have lots of scraps. The CF side that is visible, I would sand and chip away at the white areas of Resin, typically the white areas are where the cracks happened and the bond between the carbon fiber material itself and the resin separated. Chipping away at the white areas will cause a bigger cracked area but it will make it look better in the end. After you chip a majority of the white edges, you can fill it with Clear Finish Resin, the fiberglass guys should know what this is if you ask them. After some small drops of resin in the cracked areas, sand down smooth and sand up to 1500-2000 grit and polish.
The small cracks will still be visible but the bigger ones will be nearly gone. Like I said this whole process takes about a day or so to get it all done but it is a PITA and a long process.
I'll be finishing up the diffuser mold this week and have a production piece next week. We should have about 5 ready to go out and the cost on them will be most-likely $600 shipped.
OEM roof cap with the bolt down rails will be finished up next week as well. Price is still TBD. Were still working on the prototype as we had to redo it.
Let me know if you need any more help or send me a PM.

if you need some vortex generators let me know. I have a spare set. One side has flaws in it but the other is pretty mint.
sorry to hear about the piece being so messed up, the seller didnt disclose all of that?
Autoinfantry...if youre going to redo this piece please provide a bracket for the passenger side that does not require relocating the evap canister. The ones MG provided for the passenger side were useless if you hadnt relocated the evap canister.

and no, seller did not disclose that.. he just said normal wear, but that's beyond normal wear. this piece hangs on the rear bumper, normal wear would be rock nicks here and there, but not cracks and scraps!
are you running all genuine bodykit parts? just asking..

Check with these idiots, I suspect they will have a lot of CF to part out if they don't sink

Just go to your local boat shop and get clear epoxy finishing resin and use it to fill in the cracks or take it to the boat repair shop and have them do it for you. I bet they will do better than the fiberglass bodyshop. Then just paint it yourself flat black or pay to have it painted. Be original and have it painted to match your car!
