Default Painted Headlights

Hey guys, I started painting my headlights yesterday. On one of the pieces, I used primer, then applied a coat of satin black. However, when I applied the satin black, i could see "spider webs" and small swirls/cracks. Why is that? I tried wet sanding and respraying the satin black, but its still there. What should I do? I want it to be smooth, should I sand with something rougher? And start all over from primer? Thanks. BTW, im using plastic primer with all purpose satin black paint.

^ lol no man. I don't need the guide on HOW to paint/open headlights. Im having trouble with the paint itself. It feels leaving lines/spider webs when I apply paint on primer. Thanks for the attempted help.

Is it possible your paint and primer are not compatible? Are both from the same manufacturer?

FWIW, I used this stuff at first, it was absolute ****... the nozzle created big problems, looked like blotches and cracks.

I tried it three different cans, sanding down smooth between each try to make sure I had a good surface for adhesion. I thought I had a problem with technique or something.

I then tried dirt-cheap krylon satin black, and it was awesome. Paint sprayed just like I would have expected.

what brand paint and what brand primer?... something is causing a reaction ... how long does it take for the spider webs to appear? on your first coat? how many coats are you spraying? ( 1 light coat wait 15-30min and then 2 more regular coats, remember) I would sand it down again with 400... prime it again.. and then wet sand the primer with 800 THEN paint.

if you using primer and having to sand it and primer it and then base it then thats way too much work to make it look decent. usually all you need is to spray paint promoter then spray a few coats of base and then youre fine.

but make sure you use plastic paint

I used rustoleoum plastic primer with the rustoleum all purpose satin black that the guy above posted. Like he said, it is complete crap. I hate that can. I wanted krylon fusion so I wouldnt have to buy primer, but I can NEVER find that stuff. I have been to michaels, sears, and home depot, and I have never been able to find that stuff. Anyways, I was eventually able to wet sand the spider cracks and re paint. It turned out decent/good. But never using that **** every again. Everytime I spray, it will shoot out little bubbles/drops of paint.

I used Dupli-Color Gray Engine Primer and Dupli-Color Gloss Black. Bought it from Kragen. It worked great. I also noticed that Dupli-Color had cans that said "no primer needed." I just decided to put in some elbow grease and start with primer then paint.

What do you guys use to seal up the headlights? I bought some waterproof DAP sealant. I put some around the cracks before putting the headlights together, then put some more around after putting the headlights together, and today I noticed there was still condensation. Are there any other cracks/places I should look? I can't believe it can still get it after all the silicone i put on.
