Headlights cracked and faded! What to do?
Hey guys and gals,
I am sure this is a repost, but I did a search and did not come up with anything useful. As the title says my 03 Track edition is looking like it has glaucoma
and I am not sure what the best options are. Basically the glass on them has turned milky and has started to crack.
I am not looking for a pair of 1700 dollar replacements either I just want to get the car up to oem spec or better as cheaply as possible. Have any of you found oem replacements that are worth a darn without breaking the bank?
Also the track edition comes with he Xenon HID package, but looking online they all seem to look the same? What do I have to look out for before ordering?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

06+ Will fit? I am seeing all these DIY posts with a halo/ demon eyes etc also. Perhaps I could just do a cheaper upgrade then buying everything..... The problem is that the outer lenses are messed up and of course you can't just buy these......

You could buy a set of really cheap Ebay headlights and swap the lenses with yours. However, having crack lenses that would just give me a reason to upgrade to 06+ style lights
06+ lights will fit and everything will plug up, you just have to cut a filament connector on the turn signal bulb. There's a bunch of threads about it if you search. 06 lights look better and the light output is way better than the 03-05 HIDs.

Yeah 06+'s are the way to go if you can front the cash. If you can't find a good deal here you may also be able to get a used, or even new one or pair off ebay. Make sure it is OEM though. I haven't personally used or even seen those aftermarket but they look really cheaply made and I question their longevity.
BTW no matter what you do, you should consider getting some new xenon HID bulbs, yours are 7-8 years old now and have probably lost a lot of luminance. You can get a new pair for under $100 easily. New bulbs combined with 06+ headlamps, and you'll have 3-4 times more light on the road. Plus the 06+'s are bixenon, so you'll have xenon HID highbeams, no more crummy halogen highbeams.

Thanks if I am getting the headlights I might as well splurge on some new bulbs I guess. Sucks that I have to spend 1200-1500 bucks because nissan went cheapo on materials though
look up some used ones at salvage yards. Can probably find a pair for under $1000 if you work at it...

Bulbs may come with a set anyway... you can use your old ballasts if you need to, and even your old bulbs, but they are pretty dim i'll bet in comparison to new. If you do get new 06+ headlamps you'll have to get new bulbs anyway as its a D2S and the old 03-05's use D2R's, now you can use a dremel to cut a small notch into the base of your old bulbs so they will fit in the 06+ headlamps, you'll see where you need to cut when you try to fit them in.

I'm not so sure Nissan went cheapo on the headlight materials. Just take a look around any parking lot and you will see many 5-10 year old cars with messed up headlights. It is usually a lack of maintenance over the years that created the problem. Waxing and polishing will normally keep the headlights looking good for a long time.
