That depends on HOW you justify any price. Do you take into consideration the work that involves in R&D, the material cost, attention to detail, overall functionality or simply uniqueness? If you assign a value to all of the items, the price is justifiable. If you are simply judging by size, then you would think something like a hood should cost significantly more per scale.
In any case, the reason why no vendor have made the parts themselves is because the people willing to pay for R&D to replicate the part is few and far in between, you said so yourself that you won't pay more than $70. Then your best bet is D.I.Y.

Understandable, might have been 70$ back in the day but if someone replicated these I would pay 300 - 400.
