i would see no benefit doing this to your street car unless you're trying to lighten up weight.. probably would adversely affect structural integrity if you don't reinforce it..[/QUOTE]

i think i saw Dai at 2010 Drift D long beach. I love how they cut the well and reinforced with bars. But i definitely wasn't thinking of doing it that hardcore..
I was thinking more of a size of the opening of normal aftermarket intake.

no added benefit for engine cooling via wheel air flow. in fact a spinning wheel air flow is 'dirty' it would just throw debris back into the engine bay if you removed all the fender /wheel well liners, etc.. you want air to extract the engine bay, not go back in.. air flow over wheels goes in the opposite direction of the wheel.

i think what you're trying to get at is some how reducing engine temps via holes? you'd have to think about air pressures and where the air is coming from into the engine bay and how you would extract air to assist in cooling the engine down. your best bet would be to cut a hole in your HOOD so that air that is flowing through the radiator has a place to go (aka get sucked up and out from the airflow over the hood) also changing air pressure underneath the car through ducting and channels would also help extract heat from the engine bay.

the FD cars you saw at long beach, with the holes in the fenderwells, is not intended for heat extraction.
