Default Second set of modified 350z l.e.d. tail lights

This is the second set of 350z tail lights I have done. This set is still in the first stages of modification but it gives you an idea of whats to come. They will have wide beam bright white l.e.d. reverse lights and turn signals built into the tail light housing. The upper and lower reflectors will be smoked and the rest of the internals will be painted satin black and have real carbon fiber accents. The upper and lower reflectors have custom l.e.d. work done to them also. More pics to come. In the meantime check out my first set if you have not already.
Thanks for looking.......

Default Question

Since you've opend these up already. Do you think it's possible to paint the inside black and insert black reflectors. The same way people blackout there headlights?

Yes these are going to be blacked out (smoked upper and lower reflectors and running/brake light area painted black) the pics here are of the first stages of the modification. I will also be adding the carbon to the lower reflector no carbon on upper reflectors this time as there are LEDS in that location now. The reflectors have not been smoked yet in the pics and the running/brake light section in between the upper and lower reflector has been removed for paint. I am currently in the process of installing the turn signal LEDs along the bottom and up the side of the lower reflector. Once this is done I will post more pics.

Are you sure they are bright enough to meet DOT code?

Yes they will look like the first set when not active. The only thing I am not doing to this set is putting the carbon on the upper reflector. I replaced that carbon with LEDs. All of the internals will be painted and smoked black. I am also throwing around the idea of adding brake LEDs to the upper reflector. Will have to test and see if tapping into the brake signal will effect the cruise control or not. I have heard on here that members were having trouble with the cruise and idle of there Z after installing some aftermarket LED tails. Not sure if this is a problem that pertains to 03-05 Z because they did not have LED tails to begin with. I will have to do a little more research on this and see what I can find out.

looks good OP but I would focus more time and research on how to get the led lights properly aligned and proportionally separated from one another.

Thank you...Sorry.... I started this project in another thread before I made this one...It was here...https://my350z.com/forum/exterior-an...il-lights.html This is the thread for the first set of tails I did. I just forgot to add ("The pics are just to give you an idea of what to expect. Everything is taped and set into place for the pics so if any l.e.d.s look out of line at all that is the reason.") In this description of this thread. As for the spacing of each LED they are measured out at a half inch from center of LED to center of LED. The only spot that is slightly off from 1/2" spacing is where the LEDs turn and go up the side of the tail light. There is a joint in there that combines the two lower reflectors and a divider between the two located behind the reflectors. It may be off by 1/8" to 1/4" in that area but this is only to clear that joint and divider. These tails are far from done so these pics do not in any way reflect the finished product. Check out my first set and you can see the quality of a finished tail light. There are pics and video of them in action.
