its more that you have most likely never seen true white. seriously, white is not put out by pretty much any bulb used today. therefore many people see true white from HID or LEDs as blueish in color.

halogens and hids are all WHITE. white means we have nearly all frequencies in the visible range covered. the difference is the color temp, or where the peak of the energy is. halogens have more output in the red end of the spectrum than an hid. you cant call one more white than the other. they just have different color temps and its all relative.
when looking at pretty much any WHITE light your brain will compensate for the color temp. the lights only take on a blueish or redish look when compared side by side with other lights.
but back to the original question. you cant really see the color of the car when looking at a headlamp anyways due to glare and it being dark etc. never heard of headlight color clashing with paint color.
