I didn't read through the whole thread, but did anyone mention the way it clamps on? The trim above the window that the rack is clamped to.... is very easy to remove. There's only a few screws holding it on. I would be very nervous to trust my bike on my Z to that setup. I see bad things happening.
haha, doh...this thread's old as hell.

I'm bored so i'm digging up an old thread.
It looks like its possible to mount the rack to the rear hatch, not those weak plastic trim pieces on the roof.
Does anyone know what yakima q clip kits you would need to rig this on?
This is my only car and the road bike and mountain bike trails are pretty far so I would use this almost every weekend. Plus we have 2 bikes so we can't just pack them in the trunk.
Thanks-

Idk why people bash the roofrack trend that's been going on, sure it may not be a popular thing to do on a Z but half the trends out there arnt popular at first and they get a ton of hate
i hate how 90% of the people on this forum CANNOT and WILL not do anything to there z untill 4000 people have already done it and its the new "norm".
Also, its 2012, the z33 has been out since 2003 they are no longer 30,000 dollars to buy and people need to FINALLY accept that they are cheaper and people are willing to take some cosmetic risks with them. I see 03's with 80-100k miles on them for 8500-10,000 all day long on craigs and other dealer sites, this isnt a lambo.
Also i like the roof rack idea, although some people may do this with or without even owning a bike or having a function to the roof rack, but the roof rack thing is catching on all over and its about damn time people realize that almost every cosmetic and visual mod you do to your Z has little or ZERO function or purpose.
to each his own, atleast take the plunge, try to be a trendsetter, or be flamed by the forum, either way as long as you are enjoying your Z then who cares?
not trying to be a jerk here but thread after thread after thread is just bashing with a side of more bashing. Not everybody who owns a Z wants to make it look exactly like everybody elses. and the trends change along with the times, more and more younger adults are affording these cars and the trends they are into go along with them. I know the original poster wasnt trying to be a trend setter but how about cutting him some slack. pretty soon people are just going to stop posting anything on this site.
which sucks cuz i love this site and its been my number 1 source of all research before doing anything to my car.

I would like to know the q clip part number as well. I have one I had on my 300ZX TT (with t-tops) that I could use on my 350z. And someone mentioned how they are cheaper, they are, mine was 4500, runs and drives great, and I can keep the miles off my 300zx TT

Need a rack ASAP. Had one on many other cars but may make a cross country move and the bike is the last part. I didn't think the roof of the Z was sturdy enough for a setup like this without bending, and that is not even mentioning the plastic sides. I never thought I'd see the day.
Do the seasuckers or boofsquire really lend themselves to distance freeway driving? My bike is roughly 28 lbs. I would be worry about denting the hatch or roof.
