Default Calculating layered window tint

I have been searching online to find out how to calculate the percentage of window tint I will get from this. If I apply a second strip of 35% of tint to my 350z, will it be below 20%? From my understanding, you just multiply .35x.35 and get your answer. That being the percent would end up around 12% window tint. Am I missing something?

that is correct. think of it like this:

original window (without tint) = W = 100% (lets 100% light thru)
first layer of window tint = F1 = 35%
second layer of window tint = F2 = 35%

amount of light thru with first layer only = (W x F1) = (100% x 35%) = (1 x .35) = .35 = 35%. (we all knew that though, just showing it for clarity). we'll call this Layer1.

Now, apply the second layer of 35% tint:

(Layer1 x F2) = (35% x 35%) = (.35 x .35) = 0.1225 or approximately 12%.

or with the original variables we have the total result as (W x F1 x F2) = 12%.

Excellent work Kyle R you pass.

+1 ^... are you looking for sun protection or the style? I personally hate tints and the only tints I'd consider would be a 3M Crystilline or ceramic... Ceramic is retarded expensive though. The Crystilline tints are pretty much clear but offer protection of a dark tint.

I have two layers of 35% - I expected .35 x .35, but it actually measured .35 / 2 layers = 17% on one side 18% on the other. Did not measure before hand to see how close to 35% it was though.

I'm only doing it because I have 35% on there right now, and I talked to the shop I had it put on at and they said it would be $70 to put new tint over it or $100 to rip it off. I'd rather just have 35% tint and another strip of 50% tint to make it right around 20%.

Maybe Ima noob, but I would be worried of the 2nd layer of tint peeling? I dont tint windows for a living but its a thought. Have you tried to remove tint on your own?

My bro was rollin with 5% tint on his S10. The cop let my bro off because hes a good kid. He warned him to either remove it or go with a lighter tint. My bro was told by a shop that it would cost 75 dollars to remove his tint. Thats alot of money when it takes 15 min to do. Our solution was youtube:

or with a steamer

From my experience with his truck we learned that Walmart tint is cheep and comes off in pieces. Autozone/part store's tint however, are easier to work with and easier to remove because the thickness in the film.

Im not saying change your mind, but there are other options. Gl w/ what it is you decide to do. Just my

Hope you brought your elbow grease and plenty or coors light for this one. I removed the tint off of my friends mustang cobra and it was no easy task. BUT, definitely worth the 70$ per window the tint shop was going to charge.

I am worried about it to be honest, but this is the most reputable shop in North Carolina, and they said the lifetime warranty against all defects would carry over to the layered tint. And he said he would only charge me $30 to peel all of the tint.

The drivers window on my bro's S-10 was autozone tint. We know because of the thickness and the shade of black. The passengers however was Walmart crap from the previous owner. The walmart stuff is thinner and kinda purple-ish?

We didnt have anything to do one day, and I wanted to show him that he could do it on his own.

I had an audio shop tint mine to 30% or 25% (I cant remember), they guaranteed their work and charged me 120 for my Z. There were tiny bubbles on the drivers side side window, which I covered w/ my350z.com stickers I moved my car back to Arkansas so it would be hard to get them to fix it since they are in Baltimore, MD.

Do what makes you comfortable. 30 bucks to remove tint is not a bad deal.

Take the $30 deal and RUN! You use more energy, beer, and four letter words than that if you do it yourself. Plus, if anything is wrong, its plausible deniability and they have to fix it!

You guys are all ******...

Applying window tint isn't hard. Removing it is even easier. Peel, spray, and use a flat razor blade to scrape all the gunk off. If you have a fresh, flat razor, your window will be unharmed.

One layer of tint is better than two. Keeps unnecessary thickness and trapped debris down to a minimum.

<-- used to tint a lot of windows to 95% perfection.

op if your getting lifetime warranty on DOUBLE LAYERED tint then i say do it!!!!!!, most shops dont cover double layer bc it will bubble up easy, i know by experience my rear windo looks like its slowly breaking out in pimples with bubbles, and the heat is not helping....LMFAO,

i say its a good deal if the cover double layer with warranty, screw DIY

People really complain about removing tint? Spray it with a window cleaner that has ammonia in it, and the tint crinkles up and falls off.
