Why would it be pointless to get new rear speakers? They're right behind your head, so I'd imagine that they'll greatly improve the sound if you get better ones.

Most audiophiles will say the rear speakers should be deleted. The analogy would be that when you go to a concert you are hearing all of the sound staged from in front of you. Rear mounted speakers will "distort" that staging and ruin the SQL sound.

I had the rears done and have them turned down to a level that is not overpowering, or take away from the frontal staging. IMHO it really becomes a personal preference.

Good luck with your install!!!

I left mine in for a while but ended up unhooking them. Sounds much better with just the fronts and a sub IMHO. Would also depend on the level of the set up I would think. If your going to do components, sub, amp and your going with at least middle of the road stuff I wouldnt install rears but if your going with cheaper probably wouldnt matter much.
