Default seibon hood question about aerocatch

this pertains to seibon owners. i was wondering did you guys install the aerocatch on your hood? i keep thinking if i should do it but dont want to go through the hassle of installing it and cutting through the hood. let me know if you guy drive without it and how long has it been without any problems. or if there was any problems. also the hood latch on the seibon seems pretty strong but maybe someone probably had a different experience.

Carbon fiber hoods and pins is really just a gamble. Some members have had their hoods on without pins for months or even years with no problems. Other members' hood's have flown open on the highway causing considerable damage. The choice is up to you but its really a roll of the die whether you'll need pins or not.
This has been discussed btw.

+1. I was paranoid, after getting my ViS CF hood.

Previous owner had it without pins for over a year without any issues. I read the horror stories on here, and decided to put the aerocatch pins on. Personally, I think it's better to air on the side of caution...

flipped up on my when i was doing only 45 mph. i stopped in time where it didnt do too much damage but it did fold our the fenders closest to the window. i ehn installed aerocatch hoodpins. never had a problem since. id say do it, because my hood flipped out and it didnt bouce at high speed, didnt have a gap, and had no signs of coming up, and yet it happened. it was latched too, i just drove on the freeway earlier that day, and it was still just fine. so do it id say.

Ran mine without pins for 2 years with no problems. One of my friend's hoods flipped up on him so I installed the pins as a precaution.

dont use aerocatch pins then. just use regular pins. They are 100x easier to install.

If your hood flips up, you probably wont die, but you'll be out more money than it would cost a shop to properly install the pins.

i was thinking about the regular pins but it looks kinda funky.. the aerocatch kinda makes it looks cleaner. but i will totally consider it. honestly i would rather go without hood pins just because i hate having to drill on the hood..

The latches aren't all welded on like the stock. Depending on your hood manufacturer, it is most likely held in by resin. Not all hoods have the exact same amount of resin holding the latch on. Correct me if I'm wrong though

you know what ive done my short research and im just gonna get the sparco hood pins. the reason being is that the aerocatch takes longer to install and there are some pin bending you must do for it to close. (so i read from other threads) and taking that to a body shop is gonna cost money along with another 80 bucks for aerocatch. sparco pins are 35 bucks and can be done at home easily. but yea im getting nervous because my hood wobbles in the freeway making me pretty nervous sometimes.

Default Post some pics!

Hello gs400speed23,

Could you post some pictures of the completed product?

I have the Seibon TS hood with the Aerocatch Latches.

Hood pins and latches are time consuming and a slight pain to install(measured eight times and cut once), but worth it(peace of mind and safety).

Thank you for your time,
Lboy06.

i honestly do not know, I was driving without pins just fine one day, and on the freeway at 80mph+ and it wasn't even shaking then, but then im driving down the street and it just flips. this is why you should install pins, because it may not give you any warning before it goes. pins are a lot cheaper than the damage i had to deal with, including a dented in roof, bent out fenders, and a crack in my wind shield, and slightly dented a pillars. i have a vis terminator now, but the one that flipped up was a seibon oem style. hope this helps.

When you hood flipped up, did the metal hinge actually break off? Could of been a perfect fitted Seibon hood, but weak hinge that fell apart causing nothing to hold it in place.
