Default 3M dinoc CF roof wrap on 350z roof: problem with wrinkles

My friend and I tried this on this 350z.
The 3/4 of the rear part was good. The front keeps getting wrinkled...

Does anyone else have the same problem or it came out good for you?

pic or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Remove and throw in trash. Does nothing good, makes the car look like a 2 tone built from the junkyard civic.

Use a heat gun and a credit card to push out bubbles and wrinkles

Did you start at one side of the car or in the middle from front to rear like is advised. I recently did my headliner in suede (not the same but same principle) and I kept getting wrinkles and such because I had started in the back and work toward front and it just didn't seem to work that way. It might be too late but try taking it up and starting at either one side of the car or in the middle (left to right middle)

I think you are correct.
On his Z and mine we both started from the back and work our ways to the front...

Get yourself a 350Z. Put carbon fiber on the roof. Once you have worked it out then you can help your friend.

get a friend to help you so you can stretch it out properly. and don't forget to spray a light mist of water before sticking it to the roof.

just recently did it with a friend and we did it from back to front. towards the front it got a little tricky, but with a credit card and a little heat we got it done. Turned out really nice.

If you don't already have a second set of hands, get one. It makes it much easier. Towards the top, you're going to need to do some heavy heating and stretching. Have one person heat up the wrap and the other stretch and smooth out the material.

But seriously, its kind of true.. listen up tho my man:
Dinoc REQUIRES the use of primer 94 on all leading edges to stick..

notice that it wasnt really that sticky when you were putting it on? and also, do NOT use water, it is a dry adhesive film. Apply primer 94 on the edges, let dry to a tack at the 5 mintue mark, then do your install.

This comes FROM 3m technicians and from experience using the product.

But back to square one.. remove and throw it away. You will have poor results re-using the existing film. THIS IS YOUR ISSUE, END OF STORY.

The world of vinyl wrap material is a wide one, and seemingly like material has VASTLY different characteristsic for adhesion, stretch, and application. My car uses 3m cv3 film, thier highest end air egress product. And i have used dinoc carbon in very small quantities on interior items that could not be ACTAUALLY carbon fibered. See my steering wheel blade and passenger door closer pull in my pictures.

This is comming from a person who has a fully wrapped car and has used all these products.

oh and dont use a credit card bare, you need felt over it, or all your stuff will be scratched to hell. No one uses bare squeegees.
And yes it does look cool, but i do hope your car is not stock.. stock car w a fake carbon roof is, well prob cool, but will get nailed on a nation enthusiast forum just a lil..

Good luck w your reapplication. Make sure its doen in a warm room tho, its gettin too cold in AZ to get good results.

thanks for the all the possitive feedbacks, guys.

I have wheels, intake, exhaust, upgraded brakes. Does that mean stock car still? I guess it is still.
But I still like the CF roof on this stock car, hehe

Anyway, I agree on not using the bare credit card method.
We use the squeezes that were provided.
And no plan on re-using the sheet. My friend wants to keep his CF roof but Imma get a new sheet to redo my car soon.

Yes i have. I love CF parts, real carbon that replaces an existing part with a lightweight CF part. Stick on parts and CF stickers are lame as rice stuff. Also i don't like the 2 tone CF look, i know the unfinished look is the rage with the civic kids.

IIRC 3M actually recommends a dry application and you shouldn't use any water or application fluid.... That's what the Vinyl shop I bough mine from told me anyways when I asked if I should buy their application fluid.

I've got my roof done already, and I've got another 4 yards sitting here to play with. I did my laptop in it too!

while I agree with you on CF stickers and relative items, I disagree.
First, if Im not mistaking, the only real CF parts are the dry CF pieces, everything else is just CF overlay. They are not real.

You said you dont like CF 2 tones but you like "real" CF parts. Shouldnt CF hood/hatch make the car appear to have 2 tones anyway unless you paint it?



anyway, let's get back to the topic since I didnt ask of who like CF hood, hatch, sticker, emblem, etc or not.

I asked if anyone that has the 3M dinoc CF roof done to their Z can come in to share pic or idea of how to properly get the job done correctly!

This is an old post, but the comment on real CF only being "dry" is not true.

The main difference is the curing process, dry, having a longer process making it extremely durable and better than the wet process. Thats why its more costly just for one dry CF part. Also dry CF end up looking better IMO>
