why would ppl flash you?
DRL's are usually very dim, they are only for day time only, like the name implies, day time running lights.

they go on when you turn on ur engine.

anyhow, on most cars, you can bypass them by looking into the fusebox, not sure about the Z.

good luck!

I've done it on several cars. All you have to do is figure out which fuse it is (Look for DRL). Some vehicles have it by itself, in which case pull the fuse and presto, problem solved. Just make sure there aren't any other functions associated with the DRL fuse, you might be disconnecting something important.

I don't know specifically how the Z's DRL operates but I'd guess that if you left the parking brake engaged just enough to keep the dash warning lamp on while you start the car, but not enough to actually be dragging the brake, you may be able to keep the lights off without further modification. If this works, maybe you could rig a switch and/or relay system to simulate the same thing.

I've been reading up on the G35's lighting US vs Cdn (DRL). The G runs the high beams in series @ 50% via switching in the DRL module. If you could poke around your car after examining the schematics I think that it may be possible to disable or bypass the system. I wish I had something more for ya.

I'm actually working toward adding DRL's but they'll be for use at my discretion (i.e. when they really are needed). It chaps my hide to see these hardwired ON or legislated as required (Canada).

Well, having DRLs definately makes your car more noticeable. Visibility is a plus when considering the safety benefits, especially in areas like Canada which can have pretty poor weather conditions.

There are folks out here in SoCal who LOVE features like DRLs and rear foglights. S13 owners commonly import the Canadian DRLs and are worried about how to wire them up. BMW Mini Cooper owners are often talking about importing the european rear foglight kit. Apparently, this will be something that BMW will be offering as an option on the newer MINIs.

I think it comes down to people not having something, wanting it -- and those who have it, dont want it. I dont have DRLs on my car BUT, I do catch myself driving with my HID headlamps on ALL the time (day or nite).

Cheers,

Yes, I agree with you on that mostly. Illustrating that fact is my endeavour to enable DRL's on my vehicle. When I choose to increase my visibility, I will. Of course I have the option to turn on my lights as you do but I dislike the idea of running every single lamp on my vehicle so that's out of the question for me really. DRL's have their place but IMO it is not on all cars 100% of the time. That just causes the cars that once stood out because they had lights on to blend in with the rest once again. That's why Federal law (US and Canada) has been changed to allow motorcylces something to aid them in standing out once again, modulators.
