paint matching
im getting a front bumper painted and the gut at the dealership said he would need my car there to match the paint now i thought all they did was go off the paint code from the vin# anyone who has had a body kit paint matched did the person doing the job need the car there for them to paint it? has anyone heard of this?

a lot of new cars including the Z have paint that looks different under different light and can show different colors or shades. They can use the paint code to put the right paint on the car but if you want it to match exactly, the car should be there for comparison.

this is true i had my front bumper repainted due to chips and part of my rear bumper painted as well.
the thing that is the hardest to match up is the texture of the paint applied rather than the KYO chrome silver for example. colors such as the CS have metal flake and some times when sprayed on it doesnt spread out like from the factory this gives it the illusion of being lighter or darker.
but if you really want to know something go look at your car. if you look real close you will notice the bumpers both front and rear and the bottom side panels are all different colors than the doors and the rest of the car. now that ive noticed this i see in on all the silver and lemans sunset Z's everywhere i go!
