Default Lambo doors!!!

What is the going rate on this kit and where can I get it? I spoke to the engineer ar Car exess and he said that the door will swing open 50% before going upward. In other words, its not hard to get it or get out, unless you swing your door all the way out before you get in/out. Having said this, I wanted to hear from you guys who already have this kit installed or know someone who did. Any inputs/info will be appreciated as i'm in the market to get one....

I have the kit on my car. I'm 6'2" and weigh 225. I have zero problems getting in and out without lifting the door up. The only time I lift the doors up are when I'm showing the car or just hanging out.
You'll be amazed at the attention you get when you lift the doors. The main comment I get is "I didn't know the doors opened like that" And I get, how much did you pay for that car, around 60,000. lol
I love my doors and would do it again!

Westby, that's stick on stuff and I'm taking it off. The interior will be painted.

sgt_bo, you can buy that kit from www.carxs.com

350zya, typical cost for installation should be around 200-300 dollars. The cost is mainly due to the time it takes. You have to 1)remove both doors and door panels.
2) remove both fenders.
3)bolt on both new hinges.
4)bolt on both doors to new hinges.
5)cut inner fenders to allow for travel of hinges.(this sounds difficult, but with an air saw it only takes about 10 minutes/fender).
6)make slight adjustments to hinges.
7) lengthen wires for power windows, etc..(kit comes with wires and crimps).
8)bolt fenders on.
9)put door panels back on.

This process, depending on experience and proper tools takes 3 to 6 hours.

Thackattk, are you aware of how this conversion should stand the test of time? I realize Car Excess' site states that there are no leaking problems, but is there any indication that this won't be true in ten years' time?

Also, any word of whether Car Excess has made progress on the custom panels? Estimated cost?

Once they are able to convert the doors to 90 degrees, as I believe you stated they are endeavouring to do, will it have any pros/cons to yoonakron's weld on kit?

hypersonicaz,
The decah hinges that carxs modifies are made of steel, thus they have to be painted or they will rust. Carxs does paint the hinges your stock body color and they clearcoat them. If over time the paint is damaged and bare steel is exposed they will rust and weaken. That is really the only problem I can forsee as far as major problems are concerned.
The mechanism uses high pressure gas shocks to assist in lifting the doors. I would think that in time the seals may give out, but the gas shocks are easily replaced.
Other than that, I would say that the modified decah hinge is much stronger than the stock hinge, and just like most things, will last according to the care they are given.
I believe www.carxs.com has some detailed information on the sturcture and quality of the hinge.
As far as leaking, no, there should not be any greater chances of leaking compared to stock, due to the fact that the doors open initailly like stock, and close (once the doors are down), like stock.

Carxs will be customizing my panels before SEMA, which is in November. Once mine are done, availability and pricing will be decided.

Pro/Cons on carxs vs yoonakrons' doors: I really am not qualified to answer this, because I've not seen yoonakrons doors in person. The major difference is that carxs is bolt-on and can be reversed back to stock easily. Also, since carxs is bolt on, it can be an install it yourself type mod and you can save a few hundred dollars, if you have the skill and the time.

Any other questions, I'll be glad to try and answer to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks for taking the time to type so much! 'Twas very helpful.

How does Car Excess plan on making the kit go to a full 90 degrees? Also, would you estimate that their orientation will be as vertical as below?

While I love the way the current kit looks on your car (kind of a V looking config), I would prefer the doors to be as perpendicular to the ground as possible.

When I spoke a tech at carx, he said they are in a process of fabricating/molding a new door panel. They just hired a guy who only works on fabrication. They said the new panel will be ready in about 2 months or less at around $600 each. This new door panel will give them a new design that will allow you to open the door 90%. However, he said there may be some trial and error which may delay the final product.
I can't beleive Carx is the only company that sells this kit??? Do you guys think the price will drop??? May be a group buy is in order....

List your name here if you're very serious about getting this kit.. I need 5+ buyers so I can negotiate with carx for a discount...

I'd consider getting this kit if the price is right. Main obstacle is I could not do it before November because of other mods.

hypersonicaz... who makes the doors pictured on the Chrome Silver above? Are there other pics of that car?
