Default corvette trunk

mod's please redirect if its in the wrong place, i tried searching but couldnt find exactly what i was looking for. has anyone tried to or seen someone try to incorporate a vette style trunk/ back window on a Z? my buddy just got an '07 vette, and looking at them parked next to each other everyday from a 3rd floor apartment, i think it'd look awesome and be one of a kind. i seen that theres a carbon fiber del sol/mr2 style trunk for our car, but hell that just robs us from the little trunk space we already have. anyone have some spare time with photoshop to try it out? a vendor out there maybe want to try and fab one to try out???? if so, shipped to 29152 please! lol

You can see from looking at the coupe hatch alone, that you couldn't have an identical window to the Z. You could have a body shop custom build you one, but it would be a one off piece, be expensive, and probably not fit/work that well when all is said and done.

Below is a picture of the rear hatch for reference to the above corvette picture.

Someone else more knowledgable can probably give you an answer, but I'd guess $6k-10k all said and done (custom curved glass work, exterior fab work, interior fab work, mechanics of the hatch lid lifters and latches, respray paint to match everything up, etc.).

Is that in your budget?

a 'try and fab one out' would probably set a vendor back $2-3k just for the mold for the frame, then the $400-500 for the custom lexan rear window.

realistically you will probably never see this happen since the demand for such a thing is low.

i would be more interested in a full single piece hatch with no rear window glass...but that's just me.

I'd like to see something like this:

That makes the rear glass less of a problem. Adding a trunk lid would make it more practical.

I think I have seen a knock off of the Strosek too. Strosek is expensive. When I was in Germany, I emailed about possibly picking one up and it's high end carbon fiber and was expsnesive.

yea, not so much. but i kindof figured it wasnt going to be cheap by any means. merely tossing the idea out there, and seeing if there was anything for our car that gave a little more rear view seeing and less of a blind spot

true, but already takes from the trunk space we have. i know most people dont mind less trunk space having a second vehicle, but my Z is my DD/only car atm. i probably shouldof got something more practical all together, but you wouldnt be a real enthusiast then would you?

yes, but the best of ideas have to come from somewhere, granted probably on a piece of paper or photoshop first and get opinions next instead of fabbing one out right like that. and seeing some of the hideous body kits and combo's of the such that are vendor'd and installed on Z cars? i'm sure something that not only might look good but help improve your driving view could make someone a killing if done right.

If you can get a pic of both of your cars from behind and some similar side angle shots of yours and his car, I can probably throw them together in a photoshop for ya.
