I got a strafe sl2 bumper w/ the carbon fiber lip and had it painted and put on this last week. Also, i never had a chance to post in the new owners section so i will use this as my intro too. Last month i bought a 2003 Silverstone Touring 6-speed with 90000 miles. Im loving every minute of it Im not planning anything major for it. Maybe just some bolt ons. But i do have the problem of mounting the license plate. Im not going to drill holes into the bumper, well not the front anyways. Im thinking of mounting it in the opening but was wondering if it would block airflow too bad? Should i mount it on the passanger side (in front of the oil cooler) or driver side (possibly blocking air to intake). Also, how should i mount it? Thank you for any input!

Just don't mount the front plate.

 

What do you mean by dont mount it? I have it in my front window right now but my friend did that and got pulled over for it.

 

Depends on the state you live in i guess. My opinion, mounting the front plate is ugly.

 

leave it in your windshield. thats what i do. i would take 3 25$ fix it tickets a year over having a rediculous looking front plate on my nice car.

 

I agree. Mounting the front plate takes a lot away from the bumper but in nebraska they require it
But if i get pulled over wont i have to mount it? i wouldn't drill holes anywhere that is visible.

 

I thought the first one is a fix it ticket, then it's a "failure to comply" which is like $325, at least in california(happened with my exhaust.

 

How is the fitment/quality of the Strafe bumper?

 

you dont HAVE to do anything. i just take the fines and dont fix chit. f the rules. they are for the stupid people that need colored lights to tell them what to do.

 

varies from bumper to bumper. The first round of them fitment was spot on, now little by little more bodywork is needed.

 

Maybe you should of thought about your choice of bumper,knowing that your State
requires a plate to be on the front of your car.
Too late now I guess.
I don't think you will have an airflow problem.
The only way I see a plate being mounted securely will be to drill 2 holes in the bumper.
Use a "L" bracket(positioned the same way as I wrote the "L".You will need 2 of course.
Attach the plate using the bottom holes.

I'd try to do the dashboard deal until I get caught first>

Thought of another way...without drilling holes.
Fabricate 2 brackets out of an acrylic(VIVAK ETC).I'd make them 2" wide.
You can bend in a "L" shape.Some ofthis material can be cold bended.Others
need some heat to bend.Basically you need 2 strips about 8-10" long X
2".I'd bend to be greater than a 90 degree angle.The plate would slant back to the rear.It would look better than a straight up mount.The acrylic brackets can be attached with 3-M tape.No drilling needed.If you ever have to remove,
it can easy be done without damage to your CF spoiler.

By the way,the 2 holes that you need to drill will not be showing...would
need to drill into the top lip.The plate would be in front.I'd paint the brackets black.You won't see them anyway.I did a similar mounting on a Alpha Romeo

I like the bumper. Now you need wheels/sides at least to make it flow.

 

It is a risk that you take. Take it or mount it. Just like speeding.
Do you ever overspeed?. If yes then don't mount it because overspeeding is more risky than no front plate

 

Theirs a G35 here with an Impulse front bumper which has a large opening up front and he mounted his behind the opening. So it's really hard to notice it's their but enough for the Police to see. I can't find the pic but visualize your plate about 3 inches in front of the radiator offset to the right/left.

Another member (finalforce) was able to use a mounting bracket found at most automotive stores to have this plate added to the car, you could do something similar:

 

I love this front bumper (SL2) more and more every time that I see it. If they sold a long-nose version of it, I would sell my love on the street corner until I could afford to buy it.

You think i would be able to do this by just getting 2 "L" brackets, heating them up and bending them to less than a 45 degree angle? Otherwise, i am interested in where to get that bracket. You said just at an autoparts store like advanced?

 

bumper looks great. i'm not a fan of front plates but if you really are putting it on i say mount the bracket on the side of the lip not the front.
