Default Quality paint job

Hello! I have a metallic orange 2007 350z and I want to repaint it to a darker burnt orange. I know to avoid the cheapo places and I wouldnt be opposed to spending a grand or two. But i hear quality paint jobs are around $4-10K, and i dont want to spend that. The reason i want to change? The orange is kinda bright, and I want something less glaring. It still looks nice, but after a year its just irritating. I have gotten plenty of complements, but bright is still too bright. I live in the Wash DC area

Can i do anything to bring the cost down (do my own prep work)?
What are peoples experiences with it?
How long did it take the shop?

Secondary Question:
The leather seats of my car is a matching orange. Is there any quality stainer I could buy that would darken it to match the new darker color?

Current:

Intended:

It would probably be cheaper to trade the car for a color you like. Same model year, same approx mileage, etc.

I doubt any reputable shop would let you do your own prep work. Imagine the battles that would result for you not being happy with the final outcome - you'd blame them, they'd blame your "crappy" prep work. What shop would touch that?

Not sure how good a leather "dye" job would work. First off, only the seat top is leather, the sides and other surfaces are vinyl which I doubt you could dye. For $500-$750 you can get new leather seat covers.

There aren't a whole lot of Lemans Sunsets around, certainly not after 2006.

dont be a fool thinking you can get a nice paint job for cheap. pay to play. you will regret when should of just kept that oem color instead of being cheap.

I can see where the color is too bright, but given the circumstances that solar orange is very unique, I wouldn't change it.

Theres a place called Fresh Designs on Baltimore National Pike, they dyed my boy's leather in his super bee and it was flawless. Google them and give them a ring. Theres a shop in Sterling, VA. where most of the guys take their cars to get body/paint work, can't remember the name though.

Welcome to the forum. Be sure to stop by and check out the Mid-Atlantic section in the forum. I live in Bethesda, we should have a meet soon!

right, but as i said above, those cars around there. Its a 2007 with 20K miles, those arent a dime a dozen.

You know, i might be able to flip this car for more then i paid for it, and then use that money to buy a similiar Z and get this all free.

but that would be too much work

-1 on everyone telling him to keep the solar orange, I don't care how rare it is, it is ugly as all hell, Lemans Sunset > Solar Orange (Lemans owner here )

How about you just get the car wrapped in vinyl... theres color options, matte options, all kinds of stuff.. and MUCH cheaper to boot. You can also replace what gets damaged easily and also switch it up when you get bored in another year.
