Default What should it cost to paint a spoiler and a rear bumper?

Hey all,

Might be changing my spoiler, depends on costs.

What should it cost to paint like a Blitz spoiler in a tri-coat paint? (metallic flakes, the paint color itself, and then clear - three layers hence the term "tri-coat" just in case anyone isn't familiar with that term)

While I'm at it...how much to paint a rear bumper?

Thanks everyone, trying to get a feel for what's fair and what's a good deal.

I'd say go around to different shops, and ask. different regions have different prices ranges. Also don't just go with a shop just because it has the lowest price. Take a look at their work, and make sure they know what they are doing. If it looks like crap, spending $2 is way to much.

I would budget 500-600 for the spoiler and bumper. Always remember when it comes to paint or body work, you get what you pay for.

Good luck.

Ok thanks guys.

I'm calling around and will be doing my local homework of course, just trying to get an idea of what others have paid for quality work so I can recognize what the norm is.

Agreed on making sure they do quality work as well. I'll be living with it for years, so I won't compromise on quality to save a few bucks, but I'm not willing to spend more than necessary either.

question for everyone - does that $450 figure include blending into the hatch and rear fenders? Or is that just painting the rear while it's off the car to make it match as close as possible?

Thanks again,

For what its worth i recently had a reputable body shop quote me 700-900 for prep and paint for a front bumper, sides, and rear add ons.

Thanks guys, I'm still shopping the job, but this helps a lot.

Car is going to look great if I get this done.

Then it's just about twenty seven more mods and she's done!

Oh..out of curiosity....how much extra is it to have blending done typically?

Does it take a lot more paint or just a lot more time? Or both?

Whatever your best local shop charges is what you should pay. People will always say don't pay more than this or that but the fact of the matter is getting body work done in LA is much different than say somewhere in Idaho. Experience and amount of custom work done at the shop will be the determining factor. Just don't go to a collision repair place they generally only do OEM and will have a hard time with custom work and will end up charging you more. I paid $2000 for paint and install on a poly V2 Nismo front bumper that was two colors with one being a 3 layer paint and they use PPG paint. I had them customer install and cut two different size mesh pieces and mount them in the grill area as well as fill and smooth the 03-05 lines on the front. They also painted and installed JDM Nismo sides, recleared the carbon blade and repainted the base on my V1 Nismo spoiler and also re-sprayed my rear bumper and had them install a CF rear diffuser and a factory hood seal on my CF hood.

Break it down with them and itemize each thing you need done. Estimates are exactly that, an estimate and the price will go up if not discussed in detail.

Have each person here telling you a price to post a pic of their car and the work done to get a better idea of the opinion you are getting.

$600 with 2 inch gaps between body panels sound good?

$1500 with OEM look sound better?

Get my point. Some people don't give a **** if their car looks good as long as it is modified and that completely misses the boat IMO.

P.S. Always have the paint blended in to the panels, bumper, etc.

Good Luck :thumb up:

^ This is false and not included in paint estimates for most shops. At least here in NorCal. Blending will generally be more but not much as it is more work.

A large amount of shops never blend for bumpers to begin with.
