Nismo v2 Kit installed and painted... finally
First off, if this needs to be moved to the media share section then do so please..
I picked up a VIS Nismo v2 front bumper & VIS racing nismo side skirts from a guy on craigslist, and ordered some Nismo rear valances from ABS dynamics. Got everything installed and painted by Jimmy Cable Auto Body, located in Gibsonville, NC. He did an amazing job blending the paint, imo. I love how it came out. However, the rear valances were a *****.. if someone could recommend the STRONGEST double sided tape on the shelves that'd be great.. this green 3m double sided tape isn't doing the job. thinking i should have gotten the molding tape stuff.
i know this is probably the most common kit, but it just so happened to pop up on craigslist, and i've always loved how it looks.
onto the pics (sorry, don't have a nice slr camera or anything, so these will have to do):
day i got it.. and if anyone is wondering, yes a fullnismo v2 fiberglass kit WILL indeed fit into the Z.
side skirt test fit (not bolted up)
front bumper test fit (not bolted up to fenders)
also, installed some 20mm spacers on the front wheels, 25mm spacers on the rears, and lowered it on some Tanabe GF210 springs.
next will be wheels and tires. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Nice job on the front.
However, not a fan of the Nismo sides not being body color.
Visually, the black skirts are gonna make your car look higher of the ground.
On the "rear valances" do you mean,Nismo style rear add ons?If so,depending
on the make(AIT's are lousy),the fit will vary. There are 2 screws in the wheel wells,
2 screws underneath.Having install a few sets of these,I think your problem is the upper
ridges. They curve toward the fender for a flush fit.However,inside--right below the
ridge, its hollow. One layer of 3-M tape does not touch the fender to allow attachment.
You need to build up several layers of 3M,enough so that it touches the fender. In addition, some of these add ons have a gap where the rear(tip) wraps around the bumper.A trick (if you don't have a flush fit)is to cut a small piece of black vinyl
door edge guard, slide it on the end where it touches the bumper. It will give a finished look.

thanks!
thanks.
it was a tough decision, i was going to color match everything, then saw a couple more pictures with black around the edges of everything and i loved it. and i still do. if i would have done a black lip on the front, then color matched the sides, it would have look silly, imo.
indeed
no, i mean the rear valances. and i actually was able to get it to hold with this 3m double sided tape, seems like its hardened or whatever and seems tight, but if it pops out of place again, i'll get something else.
thanks!
thanks a lot. yeah this 3m tape actually worked, i had to take it off and re-apply it closer to the edges, then got some painters tape, so it would hold it in place until the double sided tape "hardened". and i think it worked.. we will see.

On the 3-M tape "hardening"/problem attaching, the tape that you buy at
autoparts stores&Home Depot is ok.But I use a 3-M tape specifically made
for attaching BODY PANELS.If you check the stuff at Auto Zone etc,it says molding mounting etc.The best stuff is 3-M AUTOMOTIVE ACRYLIC PLUS
ATTACHMENT TAPE,PART #06382.I use 1/2".You can buy it at auto paint
supply stores. It comes in a 20yd roll.Costs about 35bucks.It looks similar to the standard 3-M.However,the tape is not gray, its black. Also, its best to use
adhesion promoter on the surfaces before you install your part. You may
have already done this...?If not,the promoter(3-M)comes in small packets.
Inside there is a small sponge saturated with the promoter that you wipe
on the surface. This is a catylist of sorts that promotes the bonding.
In addition, its alway good to heat the mounting tape a bit to get the adhesive
nice and soft.Put it inthe sun or,use a hairdryer.
Of course before any of this, the surface of the panel has to be super clean.
Sometimes the usual wiping with alcohol is not enough. Its best to use a prep
spray that removes all the wax etc.Duplicolor has a great one.

From my experience, when you start changing the look of your car,the wheels
quickly become "dated".Of course wheel design&color are all a matter of
taste.IMO(for what its worth),a gunmetal color wheel would look great.
Design?---your call.

you call valances are the Nismo style add ons.Per my post on this, the top part(its hollow)has to be built up with 3-M tape.Any gap in the rear?
This part should stay on snug if you read my directions. Its good to hold /
press the part to the panel with heavy pressure for a minute or so.
If you used adhesive promoter, that sucker will be on there permanently!
